525   Gretzky, Wayne. (1961- ). Celebrated Ice-hockey player, holder of numerous records, he is the NHL's all-time leading scorer. Original Color Print Signed by Wayne Gretzky. "Celebration." Limited Edition Color Lithograph by Stephen Holland. Size: 27 x 35". Numbered and Signed by the artist, number 30 of a limited run of 150. Dated February, 1990. Image depicts Gretzky and his team mates exulting in victory, sticks and gloves thrust high in the air. The print is signed by Wayne Gretzky, and the three other team mates depicted, all in pencil next to the signature of the artist. Very Fine. Handsomely matted and framed to an overall size of 36 x 43".

526   Hogarth, William. (1697-1764) English painter and engraver. Famous for his extraordinary faculty for depicting the vices and follies of his time. Most of Hogarth's pictures and prints, which now enjoy a high repute for their technique, are preserved in British public or private collections. His powers of invention and combination were extraordinary; as a humorist and social satirist with the pencil he has had few peers.

From 1755-58 he produced four prints of the Election series. This example, "Canvassing for Votes", is plate #2 of this series, published Feb. 20, 1757. This print is probably state #6. Foxing about the borders. 22 x 17". Framed to an overall size of 30 x 26". Also includes a book on Hogarth prints: Sammlung Hogarth'scher Kupferstiche.

528   Kasimir, Luigi. "St. Mark's, Venice". (1881-1962) Kasimir's etchings have been popular in this country since the 1930's, when he executed a series of etchings of famous Americana, from the New York skyscrapers to the imposing scenery of Yosemite Valley. His softly-colored, truly artistic etchings can be found in all the greatest galleries and museums, from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art to countless galleries and fine prints collections around the world.

Original colored etching, pencil-signed Luigi Kasimir. Less than 150 examples exist. Mint condition. 30½ x 25".

539   Priests of the Fuke-sect (Komuso). Water color painted by Sanzo Wada, printed by Kyoto-Hangain Co. Ltd. Matted and framed to an overall size of 13 x 17".

The priests are playing the shakubachi, a bamboo flute, and they beg contributions of money or rice by which they earn their living. The Fuke-sect is a Buddhist sect which originated in Japan long ago. In the chivalrous age, such warriors (samurais) who had to hide from the public, created this sect and built many temples where they passed their lives. This is why the Komuso wears a sword and large head-gear to hide his face.
