773   1920's Kodak Vest Pocket Camera. Though called Vest Pocket cameras, these were in fact closer to coat-pocket size; the folded dimensions are 1 by 2 3/8" by 4 3/4". Black. Appears to be in good working condition.

774   American Business Tycoons. An incredible collection of 48 silver sepia-toned prints, taken by Harvey Firestone's photographer, George Ebbing, whom Firestone invited to take photographs of Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, John Burroughs, Warren C. Harding, and more. These photographs document their much publicized vacations from 1916 to 1924.
Included is the book There to Breathe the Beauty by Bauer, which includes 22 images in this lot. Photographs measure 7 x 5" each, and offer a rare glimpse of great men at play and relaxation on annual camping trips through the Adirondacks, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee, usually lasting two weeks. The wives of Edison, Burroughs, Firestone, Harding and Ford also west along. Edsel Ford, his wife, and Firestone's son Harvey, Jr., are also featured in the photographs. All of the photos are gems, including: Edsel playing the piano for the Henry Ford, Edison on horseback, Ford peeling potatoes, lacing his shoes, washing in a stream and starting a fire, Burroughs and Ford studying plants, the group saying grace over meal and many others. Firestone, an avid horseman, even took his prize Kentucky Thoroughbred "Herbel" along. These famous trips inspired the traveling Off-Broadway show, "Camping with Henry and Tom," 1995. Very Good. This is an incredible offering of fine photography of the leaders of the Industrial Revolution of the 20th century in America. Included is a rare photo of George Ebbing the photographer and an index of where all 22 prints can be found in the Bauer book. A fantastic investment for the new millennium where singles of these photos will sell for a thousand and up.

775   Bromfield, Louis. 1896-1956. Pulitzer Prize winning American Novelist (Early Autumn, 1926), many of whose stories were adapted by Hollywood into popular films. Inscribed Photograph Signed. Black and white, 11 x 14", "Hollywood!!! 1930". Pensive portrait of the author inscribed "For Arthur Ridman/ Colleague and fellow bridge player/ with much affection Louis Bromfield." Heavy mounting stains on bottom and along right edge, but still suitable for framing.

776   Harding, Lyn. 1867-1952. British Stage Actor who made a splendid heavy in films of the 1920's and '30's. Played "Moriarty" in "The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes." Inscribed Photograph Signed. Vintage sepia-tone, 10½ x 13½", n.d., by "Newman." Diabolical portrait of the actor costumed as an evil cleric, inscribed, "To Virginia Murray/ with admiration and gratitude/ very sincerely Lyn Harding." Framed to an overall size of 12½ x 15½".

777   Hoffman, Bernard. Acclaimed photo-journalist for LIFE Magazine. Limited Edition Photograph. Black and white, 11 x 14", featured as "Picture of the Week" on p. 37 of the October 15, 1945 issue of "LIFE". Caption in part: "After the atomic blast of Nagasaki, all that remained of the Urakami Roman Catholic Cathedral,... was a stone shell and a shattered stairway strewn with bits of sacred statuary. Amid the litter lay a sculptured head of Christ, like a stony symbol of the moral problem facing a people who profess to follow his teachings: whether even the urgencies of war should permit such violation of individual life as the atomic bomb had committed." . Fine.

778   [Pickford, Mary and Buddy Rogers]. Vintage Photograph by George Hurrell. 11 x 13.75 ", Black and white, with 8 x 10" negative & print. This dramatic photo was taken on July 15, 1937 to commemorate the couple's wedding. Large print exhibits creases in the upper and lower right corners. Very Good.

779   [Pickford, Mary]. Lot of Fifty Silver Sepia Prints. Mostly 8 x 10". Taken by a number of famous photographers including Witzel, Hartsook, Hurrell, Moody and numerous prints that exhibit attributions of Hesser and Cheney & Johnson, every picture is dynamic, fresh, all different poses, circa 1920s-30s. Very Good.
