754 "Chili" by Hondius, c.1700's. A very
understated map by the famed Dutch cartographer. The use of color is very limited compared to other
works of the period, yet the way its applied to the cartouches makes it refreshingly unusual. The
coast and interior is sparsely labeled, with the Andes dominating the region. The Chilean sea is
illustrated with its traditional tall ships, whale and even a ferocious looking sea monster! Matted
and framed to an overall size of 26.5" x 22". Slight center crease. Fine.
