Danubian Region, c. 3rd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (14.4 g). Imitating tetradracm of Philip II of Macedon. Laureate head of Zeus right. Reverse: Jockey holding palm, on walking horse right, cornucopia symbol below. Cf. Dewing 58. Lightly toned and of quite accomplished style. Trivial striking weakness, still a particularly attractive imitation. Very Fine.

Danubian Region, c. 2nd-1st century BC. Lysimachus-style Gold Stater (7.5 g). Diademed head of deified Alexander right. Reverse: Athena Nikephoros seated left; "Tomis" ethnic below chair. Forrer KM 375; Pink 282. Nearly Extremely Fine. Unusual and scarce.

Lot 3
Danubian Region, c. 2nd-1st century BC. Lot of two AR fractionals. South German, Noricum, AR Hemiobol: male head left; horse left, pellets in field. Kellner 757; Forrer 2, 81. Also, East Danube, AR Quinarius, imitating coins of Philip II of Macedon: laureate head of Zeus right; walking horse left. Göbl, OTA 207/3. Both toned; metal a little granular. Fine to Very Fine.

Lucania. Heraclea, c. 390-350 BC. AR Didrachm (8.0 g). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet with Scylla ornament; ethnic at right. Reverse: Herakles frontal, twisting right, strangling the Naemean lion, arrow and bow to left. Dewing --; SNG ANS 54 var.; SNG Cop. --. Nearly Extremely Fine.

Lucania. Velia, c. 350-300 BC. AR Didrachm (7.3 g). Head of Athena right, wearing Attic helmet with griffin ornament, delta above. Reverse: Lion walking right, pentagram above flanked by two letters, ethnic below. SNG Cop.1580; Dewing 466-468. Stylish art and handsome toning. Very Fine.

Sicily. Katana, c. 461-413 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.9 g). Man-headed bull kneeling right; above, branch(?), fish below. Reverse: Nike in long chiton, advancing left, holding out fillet; ethnic below. SNG Cop. 175. Slight obverse porosity, but with less problems overall than in the few specimens seen on the market in recent years. Very Fine. Very rare.

Sicily. Syracuse, 415-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.2 g). Nike flying right to crown charioteer in fast quadriga left; below, shell. Reverse: Head of Arethusa left, four dolphins around, ethnic at left. Tudeer 11; Dewing 839; SNG Loyd 1364. Die break at 1 o'clock on reverse, but with attractive matte gray toning. A pretty coin, struck on a broad flan, and overall quite problem free. Nearly Extremely Fine. Color photo.
