U.S. Commemorative Silver Coins

1936 Gettysburg Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Superb toning and surfaces, the fields awash in mint luster when viewed under a light. Delightful in every way.
Estimated Value $500-750.

1922 Grant Half Dollar, with star. PCGS graded MS-65 Premium quality. One of the nicest Grant with star half dollars that we have seen. This coin was purchased in the early 1940s and put away by a collector. It obviously hasn't been handled as the surfaces are pristine. And the color is outstanding, lightly toned with rose hues around the lower periphery and the reverse, a slightly darker rose color. Examination will note how clean the surfaces are, and we can only wonder if this coin might soon be in a higher grade holder. Look for yourself and decide, for a fresh, unmolested coin like this is a rare thing these days. A coin that a specialist will long cherish after the premium is paid.
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.

1928 Hawaiian Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. Satiny luster over light yellow color on the obverse, a bit brighter on the reverse. Typical color for the issue, most of which languished in Hawaiian vaults for years, where humidity toned them. One faint scratch is noted up from the warriors hand on the reverse. One of the rarest commemorative halves and worthy of a top end gem collection. Only 233 so graded by PCGS, with just 29 graded higher by that service. An important offering, as such.
Estimated Value $3,000-4,000.

Lot 1933 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1918 Illinois Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. One of the finest graded by NGC, with just 20 graded this high by that service and 2 graded higher. Deep blue toning on the obverse, with an off-center spot of russet tones centered on Lincoln's ear. The reverse toning is more centered, and we would guess that this coin stayed in a coin holder for many years to develop the deep colors seen here. Well struck and free of all but infinitesimal marks.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Lot 1934
1946 Iowa Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. Untoned and very frosty. One of just 36 graded this high by PCGS, with none graded higher. If you demand the finest available, then here it is in all its stark white glory.
Estimated Value $300-400.

Lot 1935 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1936 Lynchburg Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Blazing luster surrounded by radiant peripheral colors. One of the very best graded, with just 34 graded this high and none graded higher. We can not imagine a more beautiful example of this commemorative half dollar. The surfaces show only a couple of microscopic tick marks from handling, and nothing but glowing luster and superb colors everywhere else. A connoisseur's coin.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,750.

Lot 1936
1920 Maine Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. MINT ERROR - Rotated Reverse. A most unusual mint error with the reverse rotated approximately 30%. This is designated on the NGC holder. A satiny white gem specimen.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Lot 1937 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1934 Maryland Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. Blazing white luster over untoned surfaces. This one must have been carefully dipped at some point, as it remains virtually untoned today (highly unnatural for silver to remain so over many years). Excellent surfaces, even under the scrutiny of a magnifier.
Estimated Value $1,500-2,000.

1921 MISSOURI, 2 X 4, PCGS GRADED MINT STATE-66

Lot 1938 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1921 Missouri Half Dollar, 2 x 4. PCGS graded MS-66. One of the finest to survive of this rare issue, PCGS for all their years of grading has only awarded 9 examples of this commemorative this high, with none graded higher. Therefore, this is probably one of the finest known! A Missouri snowstorm of luster greets the eye as the coin is examined under a light, the periphery is darkly toned with deep gold and green. Fully struck and superb in every regard, making this appeal to virtually any collector. Only 5,000 were struck, and as this is one of the "early" commemoratives struck, most were not sold to collectors, and hence not carefully preserved. An opportunity that cannot be overstated.
Estimated Value $6,500-8,500.

Lot 1939
1938 New Rochelle Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Frosty white with just a bit of gold peripheral toning on both sides.
Estimated Value $350-450.

Lot 1940
1936 Norfolk Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Frosty luster and extremely well preserved. Strikingly common in this grade, but very difficult to find better. Lightly toned around the periphery of the upper obverse, a bit more on the reverse, probably from the original paper holder of issue.
Estimated Value $400-500.

Lot 1941 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1926 Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. This one is graced with a dollop of deep reddish color on the upper obverse and lower reverse. The luster is satiny, and the coin is very well struck. One can find so signs of contact with other coins, and this is certainly one of the very best to survive of the date. In fact, PCGS has only graded 12 coins this high, with none graded higher! If you want one of the absolute best to survive, then here is your coin.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

Lot 1942
1926 Oregon Trail Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. This one has glorious toning on both sides, well matched with luster beneath. Sharply impressed.
Estimated Value $150-250.

Lot 1943 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1926-S Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Gold to antique rose colors throughout, with frosty luster beneath. Sharply struck and pleasing in every regard. PCGS has only graded 40 this high, with 4 graded higher, making this one of the very best in the world. Why not put it away now? It will be a great addition to even the most advanced collection.
Estimated Value $800-1,000.

Lot 1944
1928 Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Light peripheral toning on both sides, with hints of vibrant colors included. Lustrous at the centers, and with just a breath of toning there. Extremely well preserved.
Estimated Value $250-350.

Lot 1945
1936 Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. One of just 65 graded as such by PCGS, with a single coin graded higher. Vibrant yellow to delicate rose colors on both sides, and boldly struck throughout. Another outstanding commemorative.
Estimated Value $600-800.

Lot 1946
1936-S Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Light tawny brown toning around the edge, mostly untoned. Frosty luster and boldly struck on both sides. Impressive surfaces, and seldom found this nice. PCGS has only graded 45 this high, with a single coin graded higher of the date.
Estimated Value $650-850.

Lot 1947 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1937-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. One of just 23 graded this high with a single coin graded higher by PCGS. The surfaces are pristine and are mostly untoned with a bit of silvery-gold iridescence at the periphery. Of course the strike is bold and the luster complete. One of the very finest to survive of this important collector date.
Estimated Value $700-900.

Lot 1948
1937-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65 Premium quality. In an old style PCGS holder, the coin is well struck and mint fresh throughout.
Estimated Value $300-350.

Lot 1949 Click on Picture to EnlargeClick on Picture to Enlarge
1938-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. Superb quality! The toning must be seen to be believed, the centers are a delicate rose shade, which evolves to a luminous blue as you near the edge of the coin, the color changes to flaming yellow. Of course the surfaces are absolutely pristine, with nary a tick to be found anywhere. The strike, too, is superb. As to the PCGS Population Report we see that 10 have been so graded, with a single coin graded higher. We doubt that any could possess the alluring color scheme offered here. If you want a spectacular coin for your commemorative set, then view this coin and expect to pay a worthwhile premium to secure it at the sale.
Estimated Value $1,500-2,000.
