Chagall, Marc
(1887-1985) A pioneer of 20th Century Fantastic art, Chagall turned
images drawn from Russian and Jewish folklore into brilliant stained glass,
murals, lithographs and paintings.
Signature ("Chagall").
Signed Time Magazine cover. Signed in black ink on the white portion of
this self-portrait. There is some adhesive residue from the mailing label
at the bottom left corner and the cover has been matted to 11 x 14".
Otherwise, the piece is in very good condition.
The Chagall 1965
self-portrait for Time is nice representation of his work, combining color
and form to unique effect.

Davis, Paul.
Signatures. Lot of five. One of the foremost illustrators of the past
30 years, Paul Davis has signed these four Time Magazine covers featuring
his illustrations. The lot includes an Autograph Letter from Davis.
Portraits of Louis Farrakhan, Gore Vidal and Bernard Goetz are included,
along with a cover illustrating an article about Vietnam Veterans with
personal comments written by Mr. Davis. The covers have all been matted to
an overall size of 11 x 14" and are in very good condition.

Lot 3

Drucker, Mort.
Signatures. Lot of four Time Magazine covers. Mort Drucker,
contributing artist to Mad Magazine for 40 years, has work in the
Smithsonian and has won numerous awards. We are offering four signed Time
Magazine covers he drew in the Seventies, covering everything from the 1970
Senate election to Rupert Murdoch's grab for media control in New York
City. Included with the covers is a note from Mort Drucker on his personal
stationery and an endorsed check. The covers have been matted to an overall
size of 11 x 14" and are in very good condition.

Lot 4

Hirschfeld, Al (b.
1903). Legendary American caricaturist known for his sketches of Hollywood
notables as seen in the New York Times. At the age of 17, Hirschfeld
began working as the art director of Selznick Studios. He traveled to
Europe to study art, returning in 1925. After the New York Herald
reproduced one of his charicatures, Hirschfeld gained popularity and began
a longstanding relationship with the New York Times. After the birth
of his daughter Nina, he began to incorporate the lines of her name in each
sketch, a game newspaper readers picked up on, becoming a precursor to the
likes of "Where's Waldo".
Signatures. Lot of two signed Time
Magazine covers. Al Hirschfeld's work is in the Smithsonian, the National
Portrait Gallery and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (along with many other
venues). Mr. Hirschfeld has signed two Time Magazine covers, one featuring
his portrait of Mario Cuomo and one featuring his portrait of Jay Leno.
Both covers have been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14" and are in very
good condition.

Levine and Cober.
Signatures. Lot of five Time Magazine covers signed by artists David
Levine and Alan Cober. The four Levine covers and the Cober
cover have been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14." The Cober cover is
accompanied by a letter from the artist, who has made a correction on the
actual cover. All of the covers are in very good to fine
condition.
There are some serious political hotbuttons pushed in
these covers: abortion, the Gary Hart scandal and the Nixon/Rockefeller
race.

Lichtenstein's Time
Magazine Covers. Signatures. Lot of two Time Magazine covers signed by
Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein's May 24, 1968 Bobby Kennedy cover and his
June 21, 1968 cover are signed by the artist in black ink. Both covers have
been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14." There is a 1" tear that has
been repaired at the far right edge of the Kennedy cover but otherwise both
covers are in very good to fine condition.
An unsettling combination
of Lichtenstein covers -- the Kennedy cover was issued less than two weeks
before Bobby Kennedy was gunned down and the June 21, 1968, cover features
"The Gun in America."

Schulz, Charles M
(1922-2000). Most widely syndicated cartoonist, best known for the
lovable "Peanuts" strip. Based on characters in his own life, Schulz
sketched and wrote each cartoon which ran in newspapers worldwide for over
50 years. The popular characters -- Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and Charlie Brown
-- have permeated popular culture and coined such phrases as "good grief"
and "security blanket".
A unique piece of Peanuts memorabilia!
Here, Charles Schultz inscribes a Time Magazine cover "Best wishes --
Charles Schulz" and also "signs" for Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy,
Schroeder and Snoopy (compete with a paw print over his name). Matted to 11
x 14". The complete magazine, sans cover, accompanies this lot. Cover
retains original mailing label, otherwise, fine condition.
The
original owner of this April 9, 1965 Time cover asked Schulz to have
Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy, Linus and Schroeder sign the magazine and thus
we are able to offer the fabulous result-- Charles Schulz renders his
characters' signatures! How many collectors have Lucy's autograph? Charlie
Brown's? .

Segal, George
(1924-2000) American sculptor who used monochromatic cast plaster
figures, often portrayed in environments of mundane furnishings and
objects, to communicate a sense of anonymity and isolation in modern life.
Signatures ("George Segal"). A lot of four, comprised of one
signed Time Magazine cover and three signed photographic prints of Segal's
work, including "Fireside Chat." The prints have been matted to sizes
ranging from 8½ x 10" to 12½ x 10½." There is some
mailing label residue and edge wear. Print condition is very good and the
Time magazine cover is in good to very good condition.

Sorel, Edward (b.
1929) One of America's foremost graphic artists, Sorel's work has appeared
in everything from Rolling Stone to American Heritage.
Signatures ("Edward Sorel"). Lot of five signed Time
Magazine covers. One cover is inscribed "With good wishes," another,
"Best wishes." All have been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14."
Faint mailing label residue on two of the covers. Overall condition ranges
from very good to fine.
Recently honored with an exhibition at the
National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, Sorel's drawings combine a
strong graphic sense and classical and contemporary pop references with a
wicked sense of humor. Whether political or social, his artistic
commentaries always tell a story.

Vickery, Robert.
Portraits. Signatures. In this lot of eight, we offer four signed Time
Magazine covers and two signed prints from one of America's most
accomplished artists, Robert Vickery. Vickery's Time magazine covers
feature portraits of Moshe Dayan, Seymour and Hanratty of Notre Dame,
Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Ari Onassis and Nelson Rockefeller and Ronald
Reagan (in the hunt for the 1968 nomination). The signed prints include his
beautiful Man of the Year portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 1966
portrait "Twenty-Five and Under." Two personal letters from Vickery are
included. All of the items in this lot have been matted, the magazines to
11 x 14" and the prints to 9 x 11." Conditions range from very good to
fine.

Lot 11

Warhol, Andy
(1928-1987) Artist and filmmaker, an initiator and leading exponent of
the Pop art movement of the 1960s. Through calculated self-promotion, he
projected the image of the artist as a celebrity, astute businessman, and
social climber.
Signatures. This lot of four Warhol examples
features three full signatures ("Andy Warhol") and one set of
initials ("AW"). Warhol has signed two Time Magazine covers, one
featuring his portrait of John Gotti and one featuring his portrait of Lee
Iacocca (Iacocca's signature also appears). Warhol's signature also appears
matted with a print of a section of his "Marilyn Monroe" and his initials
have been matted with a print of "Campbell's Soup." There has been some
restoration on the Iacocca cover, but all of the items are in very good
condition.

Artists and
Illustrators. Signatures. Lot of four Time Magazine covers featuring
Bernard Buffet's portrait of De Gaulle, Paul Davis' of Peter
Ueberroth, Mort Drucker's Mid-East Peace Talks illustration and
Folon's portrayal of modern technology -- each cover signed by the
respective artists. The Folon cover is accompanied by a cancelled check
with Folon's endorsement and a very brief note from the artist, and, the
Drucker and Davis covers are accompanied by copies of notes from the
artists. The Buffet cover is accompanied by an exhibition description of
the painting and a letter from Buffet's Paris representative. With the
exception of the Buffet, all of the covers have been matted to an overall
size of 11 x 14." The condition ranges from good to very good.

signed a Time Magazine cover featuring his work "Endangered Earth" and
Botero has signed a cover featuring "The Family." Two very different
artists, yet their work is instantly identifiable: Christo's use of mixed
media and Botero's celebration of size and shape. The Botero cover has been
matted to an overall size of 11 x 14" and both pieces are in very good
condition.

Cartoonists. Signatures. In this lot of ten, four world famous
cartoonists and three Pulitzer Prize winners have signed Time Magazine
covers featuring their work. Prize winning Bill Mauldin signed his
1961cover portrait, Pat Oliphant inscribed and signed a 1969
cover, Ronald Searle signed two of his covers (inscribing one "A
long time after...with best wishes") and Louis Mitelberg,
"TIM", included a hand-drawn transparency to lay over his cover and
a personal letter. Gary Trudeau inscribed a 1996 cover "all best
wishes" and a 1976 cover ("Cheers") and Jack Davis signed
three covers featuring his very unique Mad magazine-style cartoons. All of
the covers have been matted to 11 x 14" and conditions range from fine to

Signatures. This lot of five features great signatures from four of the
most visible Modern artists; Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Claes
Oldenberg and Charles Schulz. Andy Warhol's bold signature is
matted with a portion of his "Marilyn" print, Keith Haring's signature
("K. Haring") is presented twice, once with his "Poster for New York
City Ballet American Music Festival" and once with a "Pink Triangle" print.
Charles Schulz's signature ("Charles M. Schulz") appears on a 1986
Time Magazine cover featuring Snoopy and the gang. Oldenberg's signature
appears on a first day cover honoring Frederic Bartholdi. All of the items

features signatures of two of the most recognizable artists/illustrators of
the late 20th Century. Gerald Scarfe and Marisol have signed
these Time Magazine covers depicting the world of entertainment; we also
offer Marisol's 1967 Bob Hope and Hugh Hefner covers; the Scarfe covers
include his 1968 TV commercial cover; the brilliant 1968 Rowan and Martin
cover (featuring a small self-portrait) and his famous 1967 Beatles cover.

Challengers" in the 1968 Presidential races. Marisol's covers, featuring
her unmistakable sculptures, include a 1970 U.S. family, a 1974 portrait of
Nelson Rockefeller and a 1989 cover about "Women in the '90s." All of the

Magazine covers emblematic of that time. Signed by the artists, these

and First Lady, Alfred Leslie's Men of the Year cover featuring
Andropov and Reagan and a Jack Davis 1976 cover featuring Reagan and
