Lot 63

The Year (1975) in Rock.
Signatures. Signed Time Magazine covers from two of the biggest names
in Rock and Roll. The covers were issued just a few months apart and are
both spectacular, with suitably bold signatures. 1. John, Elton (b.
1947). ("Elton John"). Inscribed "To Arn with Love," in blue
ink. There is some light foxing and some very minor damage in the bottom
left corner (from the mailing label). The cover has been matted to 11 x 14"
and is in very good condition. 2. Springsteen, Bruce (b. 1949).
("Bruce Springsteen"). Signed in black ink. There is very faint
adhesive residue at the bottom left corner but otherwise the cover, which
has been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14" and is in very good
condition.
In 1975, Elton John released Captain Fantastic and the
Brown Dirt Cowboy and Rock of the Westies and almost stole the
show in the movie Tommy. Elton John's flamboyant stage persona and
charisma are brilliantly illustrated in this beautiful cover from July 7,
1975. Springsteen's album Born To Run, also released in 1975, was a
landmark work that earned him simultaneous covers of Time and Newsweek.
This October 27 cover catches the energy of Springsteen in vibrant, almost
electric, colors.
Estimated Value $300-400.
The Springsteen
cover is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from The Rock
Exchange and another from New Hope Walls of Fame.
