Standby "President-Elect Goldwater" Issue. Signature ("Barry
Goldwater"). Signed color copy of a Time Magazine cover. Matted to 11 x
14". Fine condition.
Standby cover mocked-up for the 1964
Presidential Election, which, of course, Johnson won. The banner headline,
"Election Extra," appearing over a very nice portrait of Goldwater says it
all, and we do wonder about Goldwater's feelings as he signed this piece.

Hoffa, Jimmy
(1913-1975) President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters;
accused of corruption and convicted of mail fraud and mishandling funds.
His mysterious disappearance and probable murder in 1975 has become a
cultural myth generating numerous speculative theories.

("James R. Hoffa"). Signed Time Magazine cover. Signed in blue ink.
Matted for an overall size of 11 x 14". In very good condition.
Portraying Hoffa at the center of a web with a variety of trucks
headed towards him, this is a fairly accurate portrait of Hoffa's influence
in 1957, the year of this issue and the year he was elected president of
the Teamsters.

Signed in blue ink. The original mailing label is still attached but
otherwise this piece is in very good condition.
In 1959, the year of
this portrait, Hoffa was very much in control of his union and was in the
process of making the Teamsters the largest labor union in the United
States. The dark sky and rain, Hoffa's penetrating glare and the truck
lights aimed straight at the reader make for a slightly sinister portrait.

Kennedy, Robert F
(1925-1968) U.S. attorney general and adviser during the administration
of his brother President John F. Kennedy (1961-63). Later U.S. senator
(1965-68), he was assassinated while campaigning for the presidential
nomination. Remembered for his contribution to the civil rights movement.
Signature. ("Robert F Kennedy") Signed Time Magazine cover.
Inscribed in black ink ("To Jose F. Gonzalez ") Matted to an overall
size of 11 x 14." There is some adhesive residue at the bottom left corner
but otherwise this cover is in very good condition.
A beautiful
printed portrait, likely watercolor with pen and ink definition. Issued in
September 1966, while Kennedy was serving as U.S.Senator from
Massachusetts.

King, Martin Luther, Jr
(1929-1968) Baptist minister and civil rights activist whose heroic
leadership during the civil rights struggles of the 1950s and 1960s
enshrined him in national memory.
Signature ("Martin L. King,
Jr."). Signed Time Magazine cover. Signed "With Best Wishes" in
red ink. The cover has been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14" and a
faint horizontal creases is visible near the bottom. This piece is in very
good condition.
Issued early in King's career, February 18, 1957,
while the Reverend was in the midst of forming the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference. This cover portrays King in the pulpit and
passengers boarding a city bus, in recognition of his role in ending the
bus boycott. A beautiful portrait.

Meir, Golda
(1898-1978) A founder and the fourth prime minister (1969-1974) of the
State of Israel. As prime minister she encouraged the emigration of
thousands of Soviet Jews to Israel, and strengthened relations with the
United States.

Magazine cover. Signed in black ink. There is one very light crease at the
top right corner and some scuffing at the bottom. The cover has been matted
for an overall size of 11 x 14" and is in fine condition.

40th President of the United States, 1981-1989. A staunchly
conservative Republican noted for his fervent anticommunism and appealing
personal style.
Signature ("Ronald Reagan"). Signed Time
Magazine cover. Inscribed, "To Jose E. Gonzales / with Best Wishes"
in blue ink. There is adhesive residue from the mailing label and small
creases at each corner. Very good condition.
Issued in October 1966,
during a California gubernatorial campaign.

America's Warriors.
Signatures. Four signed Time Magazine covers from America's most
decorated military men, between them, participants in every major conflict
from World War I to Desert Storm. Eddie Rickenbacker, Omar Bradley,
William Westmoreland and Norman Schwarzkopf are featured in this
lot and the Westmoreland cover also features the signatures of Hubert
Humphrey and John W. McCormack.The covers have been matted to an
overall size of 11 x 14" and are in good to very good condition.

American Politics.
Signatures. American politics makes for strange bedfellows and this lot
of six signed Time Magazine covers is a good example. We have signed covers
from Jesse Ventura, Robert Taft, Adlai Stevenson, Justice Black, Colin
Powell and New York mayor Robert Wagner. An interesting
assortment, granted, but all of these men have made their mark. The Ventura
magazine includes a letter from the Governor's office, the Powell cover is
accompanied by the feature article and the other covers have been matted to
an overall size of 11 x 14." Their condition ranges from good to very good.

Breaking Racial
Barriers. Signatures. Lot of four signed Time Magazine covers. The
first black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the first black man to
make a serious bid for the Presidency, the first black mayor of a major
American city and the first black Supreme Court Justice are all represented
here. Colin Powell, Jesse Jackson, Carl B. Stokes and Thurgood
Marshall have signed Time Magazine portrait covers. The Thurgood
Marshall cover has been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14" and its
original mailing label is still in place (as is the label on Mayor Stokes'
cover). All of the covers are in very good condition.

Eisenhower and Nixon.
Signatures. Lot of two signed Time Magazine covers. Both have been
matted to 11 x 14." 1. Eisenhower, Dwight D (1890-1969) ("Dwight
D Eisenhower"). Signed in black ink at the lower edge of the portrait.
There are a few light creases and some areas of chipping. The original
mailing label remains at bottom left but does not interfere with the
signature. This piece is in good condition. 2. Nixon, Richard
Milhous (1913-1994) ("Richard Nixon"). Signed in black ink in a
white portion of the portrait. There is faint mailing label residue at the
bottom left, a small chip out of the chin of the Vice President, and some
very light soiling, but otherwise this piece is in good to very good
condition.
Here, a laughing Eisenhower, looking very vital, is
photographed at the Photographer's Dinner. While the caption on Nixon's
cover, "A job upgraded, a task ahead," seems to sum up his approach to the
Vice Presidency.

Great Democrats.
Signatures. Lot of two signed Time Magazine covers. Both covers have
been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14." 1. Truman, Harry S
(1884-1972) ("Harry S Truman"). Signed in black ink over a light
shirt collar. Three horizontal fold lines are visible but do not obscure
the signature and there is some mailing label residue at the bottom left
corner but overall this piece is in fine condition. 2. Johnson, Lyndon
Baines (1908-1973) ("Lyndon B. Johnson"). Signed in blue ink
across a light portion of the portrait. There are two very small (less than
½") scratches on the figure of Johnson and overall this piece is in
very good condition.
Interestingly, Truman was no fan of the
Time Corporation and didn't sign too many covers. During the Eisenhower
administration (this cover is 1953), Johnson worked closely with Eisenhower
in forming coalitions and compromises between the various legislative and
executive factions.

Ideological Warriors.
Signatures. Lot of three signed Time Magazine covers featuring Willy
Brandt, José Miró Cardona and Levi Eshkol. Each
being ardent fighters, the dedication these men showed for their causes
inspired many followers. The covers are all matted to an overall size of 11
x 14" and are in very good condition.

India's Heroes.
Signatures. Lot of three signed Time Magazine covers. Two of India's
greatest political leaders and her greatest humanitarian are featured in
this lot. The contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru and his daughter,
Indira Gahndi, were fundamental to India's survival politically while
the selfless compassion of Mother Theresa has been fundamental to
the daily survival of many Indians. Included with Indira Ghandi's signed
cover is a note from her Private Secretary indicating that the Prime
Minister did sign the cover. All of the covers have been matted to an
overall size of 11 x 14" and are in good to very good condition.

Military Leaders of
World War II. Signatures. Four signed Time Magazine covers. Colonel
Oveta Culp Hobby, director of the WACs, General Mark W. Clark of
the Fifth Army, General Jimmy Doolittle of the Army Air Corps and
General Matthew Ridgway of the U.S. Airborne have signed these
portrait covers. While these covers were not signed during World War II,
they are all from Wartime issues and the portraits are striking. All of the
covers have been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14" and are in good to
very good condition.

Mid-Century. Signatures. Six signed Time Magazine covers. In the tense
post-war period, with the escalation of the Cold War, these men played
large roles on the world stage, influencing NATO and the UN. General
Gruenther, General Lemnitzer, General Norstad, Adlai Stevenson, Prime
Ministers MacMillan and Wilson signed portrait covers which are
matted to an overall size of 11 x 14." All of the covers are in good to
very good condition.

Republicans.
Signatures. Lot of two signed Time Magazine covers featuring three
signatures of notable Republicans. Together, Richard Nixon and
Nelson Rockefeller have signed a Time Magazine cover issued shortly
before the 1968 Republican convention. Nixon has inscribed ("Best wishes
/ to Jose F. Gonzalez"). Henry Kissinger signed a Time Magazine
cover (with the caption "Nixon's Secret Agent") from 1972. The
Nixon/Rockefeller cover is accompanied by a letter from Rockefeller's
office and has been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14." The mailing
label on the Kissinger label is still affixed to the lower left corner and
some residue from a mailing label is visible on the Nixon/Rockefeller
cover. There are minor abrasions on both covers, but otherwise they are in
very good condition.

Secretaries of State.
Signatures. Lot of three signed Time Magazine covers from two of the
great Secretaries of State in the post-War world and one pivotal UN
delegate: George Marshall, Dean Acheson and Adlai Stevenson.
These are the men that helped Europe recover, shaped the American response
to the Soviet threat and worked to make the world safer for all . The
Acheson and Marshall signed covers have been matted to an overall size of
11 x 14" and all three are in very good condition.

Three Prime Ministers.
Signatures. Two Time Magazine covers signed by three significant
Israeli Prime ministers. Shamir and Peres have signed a cover
featuring the two; and, Rabin has signed a portrait cover issued in
1974. Included with the Rabin cover is the address section of the
transmittal envelope. The mailing label is still affixed to the Rabin issue
and there is one horizontal and one vertical fold on the Peres/Shamir
envelope, but otherwise both are in very good condition.

Three Supreme Court
Justices. Signatures. Two Time Magazine covers signed by three late
20th Century Supreme Court justices. William H. Rehnquist and
Lewis F. Powell, Jr. have signed a cover captioned "The Nixon Court"
and Abe Fortas has signed a July 1968 issue. Original mailing labels
are still affixed to both covers, there is some chipping at the top of the
Rehnquist/Powell cover and some light soil at the top of the Fortas cover.
Condition overall is very good.

Two Current Supreme
Court Justices. Signatures. Lot of two signed Time Magazine covers from
Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Justice David Souter. The
Rehnquist cover has been reinforced around the edges but the signature, in
black ink, is not affected. The Souter cover has been reconstructed with a
second cover but the signature, in black ink, is unaffected. Condition for
both covers is good.
The Rehnquist cover was issued immediately
after his nomination as Chief Justice, while the Souter cover came as he
was being considered by the Senate.

Two Men of the Year.
Harry S Truman and George C. Marshall shaped the post-war world and
each was named Man of the Year -- Marshall in 1948 and Truman in 1949.
Signatures. Lot of two signed Time Magazine Man of the Year covers.
1. Marshall, George C (1880-1959) ("G.C. Marshall"). Signed
in black ink. There is some light foxing throughout and two faint
horizontal creases. The cover has been matted for an overall size of 11 x
14" and is in good condition. 2.Truman, Harry S (1884-1972)
("Harry S Truman"). Inscribed "Kind regards to Richard E.
Strelecky 9/21/63" in blue ink. There is a very small area of paperclip
rust at the bottom that does not interfere with the portrait or signature.
There are a few very small creases visible at the edges of the cover and it
has been matted to 11 x 14." This cover is in very good condition.

Two Presidents.
Signatures. Lot of two Time Magazine covers separated by a decade and
signed by two very different Presidents, both of whom have been very active
ex-presidents. Jimmy Carter and George Bush signed covers
have been matted to an overall size of 11 x 14." Both covers are in very
good condition.

Watergate.
Signatures. Three Time Magazine covers featuring signatures from six
figures of the Watergate scandal. Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell
and Kissinger signed a 1970 cover featuring "Nixon's Palace Guard"
(we do realize however, that Kissinger did not officially figure into
Watergate). Sam Ervin and Judge John Sirica have signed
individual covers. There are original mailing labels on the Sirica and
Ervin covers and some chipping and repair work on the "Palace Guard" cover,
as well as some small creases. "Palace Guard" is accompanied by letters
from Kissinger and Mitchell's offices. Condition ranges from good to very
good.

World Leaders.
Signatures. Four signed Time magazine portrait covers from important
leaders of the 20th Century. The covers signed by General Franco
and King Hussein include letters from their offices confirming the
signatures. Menachem Begin has signed in the light portion of his
cover, making the signature stand out and Harold Wilson signed the
white portion of a headline banner. With the exception of Wilson's, the
covers have been matted for an overall size of 11 x 14" and conditions
range from good to very good.

World Leaders of the
1960s and 1970s. Signatures. Lot of four signed Time Magazine portrait
covers from four world leaders who consolidated their power in the 1960s
and early 1970s. Ferdinand Marcos, Salvador Allende, Harold Wilson
and Georges Pompidou influenced their countries before and after the
60s and 70s, but those are the decades we associate with them. The Pompidou
cover is accompanied by a calling card and the Wilson letter is accompanied
by a letter from a vice consul at the New York British Consulate. The
Pompidou, Wilson and Allende covers still have the original mailing labels
affixed but the overall condition of the covers is very good.
