1887-O. PCGS graded
MS-64. Few are known in full gem condition, so this flashy white MS-64
saves not only quite a bit of money, but provides a near gem coin for the
specialist to enjoy at a fraction of the cost of an MS-65. Well struck by the
dies and without significant handling marks.
Estimated Value $150-200.
Lot 985

1888. NGC graded
Proof 65 Cameo. A rare date to locate in cameo proof, only 1 has been
graded as such by NGC, with 6 graded higher. The cameo proofs are special, they
have abundant frost on the devices and deeply mirrored fields. This one has a
whisper of gold toning around the periphery and problem free surfaces. We do
note minor hairlines in the fields, as always seen on these proof coins of the
period.
Estimated Value $4,500-5,500.
Lot 986

1889-CC. PCGS graded
AU-55. This coin is untoned and natural in appearance. The surfaces retain
some luster and we note very little wear. Moderate handling marks expected from
handling, and this example would fit nicely in a mint state collection.
Apparently most of the mintage was melted, and Breen estimates that between
1,000 and 3,000 were found in the Treasury hoard which was released in the
1960s. If you are a collector, then you will like this coin.
Estimated
Value $3,000-4,000.
Lot 987

1889-CC. VF-25.
Nice for the grade, this classic rarity is seldom offered in high grades,
even in circulated grades! This one has decent steel gray toning and a couple
of colorful spots near the right obverse stars. A bit of wear from new, but
better than the conservative grade noted.
Estimated Value $375-425.
Lot 988

1889-CC. Sharpness
of VF-30 but damaged. This one has some minor damage around UNITED on the
reverse and has been harshly cleaned and worked on in that area. Inspection
recommended, and there are surface scratches too. A rare date that is seldom
encountered.
Estimated Value $350-400.
Lot 989
1889-O. MS-64.
