Lot 1072 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1877-CC. PCGS graded MS-63 Premium Quality. This example has a slightly doubled CC at the top and is just starting to tone around the periphery. Bright and frosty on the obverse, and quite well struck for this date. We note minor hairlines, and some small areas of raised verdigris in the reverse lettering and devices, seen on several of this hoard.
Estimated Value $800-900.

1877-CC. PCGS graded MS-63 Premium Quality. Bright and flashy, with good luster in the fields and clean surfaces. Close examination finds a couple of minor bag ticks, and light hairlines, but nothing too distracting. Apparently a small hoard of these were found, as 39 have been graded this high, with 43 graded higher by PCGS, which is quite a few considering that only 1,420,000 were struck. This one has sharply defined devices and is starting to tone around the periphery.
Estimated Value $800-900.

1877-CC. PCGS graded MS-62 Premium Quality. This is an example of the recut 77 in the date, with doubling visible on the lower part of each number. Somewhat prooflike and well preserved, with frosty devices and great quality for the moderate grade. Hints of toning are starting to form about the periphery.
Estimated Value $700-800.

1877-CC. PCGS graded MS-62 Premium Quality. This one has a few wispy hairlines in the fields and also shows strong cameo contrast. Well struck by the dies, and we note light peripheral toning on the reverse, while the obverse remains white and untoned. Delicate die cracks are present on both the obverse and reverse through the periphery.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 1076 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1877-CC. PCGS graded MS-62 Premium Quality. A truly great coin for the moderate grade assigned, as the luster is full and fresh, and the strike sharp. No distracting marks or hairlines, just the usual minor stuff which scarcely warrants the grade. One tiny mint flaw on the upper shield lines. Double 77 in the date, and with a hint of mottled toning as seen on most of this group, but mostly white in color.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 1077 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1877-CC. PCGS graded MS-62 Premium Quality. Nice for the moderate grade, this coin boasts fresh luster and frosty devices, and a general scattering of handling marks and hairlines. This is one of a small hoard which was recently submitted to PCGS, but we believe the total known in mint state grades to be around 150 pieces for the entire year, which is precious few given over a 1,400,000 were coined.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 1078 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1877-CC. MS-60+. This is the double date variety, with the 77 obviously recut at the bottom. Frosty luster and well struck by the dies. We note minor hairlines in the fields, and a couple of microscopic spots, including one on either side of the eagle's head. One tiny edge scrape above the C of AMERICA. A sparkling and beautiful coin for the grade.
Estimated Value $600-700.

Lot 1079 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1877-CC. MS-60+. A frosty and bright mint state coin but we note hairlines in the fields and some surface disturbances above the eagle which may have been in the planchet prior to striking. Excellent frost on the devices, and always popular for the "CC" Mintmark.
Estimated Value $600-700.

Lot 1080 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1879. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. This coin is basically white, without signs of toning on either side. The fields are deeply reflective while the surrounding devices are frosty and white, providing a high degree of contrast. PCGS has recently started grading "Cameo" as a separate designation from a generic "proof", and this coin clearly stands out from the run of mill example. Identifiable by a two dentil stain near the first star.
Estimated Value $700-900.

Lot 1081
1879. Proof 60. Steel gray and untoned, the fields show rather extensive hairlines and there is a shallow scrape on the lower reverse.
Estimated Value $350-400.

Lot 1082 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1879. MS-63. A real beauty for the grade, with soft gold and rose toning around the periphery and well frosted devices. Minor hairlines in the fields, as always. One of the tough dates and always popular with collectors.
Estimated Value $500-600.

Lot 1083 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1887. NGC graded MS-64. Gold and lilac in color with hints of deeper shades at the rims. We note some minor fritzies on the obverse devices and rims, perhaps accounting for the grade, as well as some hairlines. Well frosted on the devices, and a highly appealing example of this scarce date.
Estimated Value $750-1,000.
