Salonina, wife of Gallienus. AE Antoninianus, Rome mint. Diademed and draped bust right, lunar crescent at shoulders. Reverse: Fecunditas standing left, holding cornucopia, child at feet. RIC 5; C. 39. Choice Very Fine.

Laelianus, 268 AD. AE Antoninianus, Moguntiacum mint, struck 268 AD. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Victory advancing right, holding wreath and palm. RIC 9; C. 4. Well struck and perfectly centered, on nice round flan. Reverse die a little worn. Otherwise, with dark gray-brown patina, and choice portrait. Extremely Fine. A very appealing example of this rarity.

Marius, 268 AD. Silvered AE Antoninianus, Cologne mint. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm. RIC 17. Well struck and centered, with most of the silvering intact. Bold portrait. Choice Extremely Fine. Rare this nice.

Probus, 276-282 AD. Silvered AE Antoninianus, Rome mint. Radiate, cuirassed bust of Probus left, wearing consular robes and holding eagle-topped scepter. Reverse: Roma enthroned frontal, within hexastyle temple. RIC 187; C. 528. Choicely centered on spacious flan, and finely struck. Nearly all of silvering complete, and lustrous. Handsome example. Virtually Mint State.

Carausius, 287-293 AD. AE Antoninianus, Rotomagus mint(?). Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Tutelus standing left, sacrificing over altar, holding cornucopia; barbarized inscription? RIC --, cf. nos. 682-692, for reverse type, none of which seem to have obverse or reverse inscriptions matching this coin. This an unpublished variant? Along with an AE Follis of Maximianus, 1st Reign, 286-305 AD. Laureate head right / Moneta standing left, holding scales and cornucopia. RIC --, cf. no. 120b, seemingly not listed with these mint marks. Carausius on oblong flan, but with very good portrait, and choice deep apple green patina. Maximianus crisply struck on round flan, of choice metal. Lot of 2 coins. First Choice Very Fine; second, Extremely Fine plus. Excellent lot.

Allectus, 293-296 AD. AE Antoninianus, Clausentum mint. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Pax standing left, holding branch and scepter. RIC 85. Finely centered on fairly round flan; metal lightly porous in areas. Dark gray-brown patina, with truly excellent portrait. Extremely Fine.

Haniballianus, 335-337 AD. AE 4, Constantinople mint. Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: River god, Euphrates, reclining right on rocks, holding scepter. RIC 147; C.2. Deep green-black patina with earthen highlights. Moderate flan crack at 8 o'clock. Nice Fine. Affordable example of this still rare coin.

Constans, 337-350 AD. Gold Solidus (4.3 g), Thessalonica mint, struck 340-350 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right, all within Imperial wreath border. Reverse: Two Victories supporting wreath, inscription within. RIC 72; C. 171 var. Slight obverse graffiti. Slight patination. With large, bold portrait. Very Fine. Rare obverse type.

Constantius II, 337-361 AD. Gold Solidus (4.3 g), Sirmium mint, struck 351-355 AD. Helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding spear and shield. Reverse: Roma and Constantinopolis seated, holding inscribed shield. RIC 9; C. 112. Slight obverse graffiti. Very Fine.

Nepotian, 350 AD. AE Centenionalis, Rome mint, struck 3rd-30th of June, 350 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Roma enthroned left, holding Victory and scepter, shield at feet. RIC 203; C. 4. Dark green and brown patina. Small old plug at top, not really intruding on the quite stylish portrait. Fine/Very Good. An affordable example of this considerable rarity (R3).

Julian II, 360-363 AD. Gold Solidus, Antioch mint. Bearded bust, diademed, draped, and cuirassed right. Reverse: Julian in military attire right, holding tropaium, seizing captive by hair. S. 4066 var.; C. 79. Also a Solidus of Valens, 364-378 AD., also Antioch mint: Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Valens in military attire frontal, holding labarum and Victory on globe, cross in left field; S. 4104 var.; C. 35. Both coins mounted in reeded edged, screw-close, 14 kt. yellow gold bezels. Julian with modest graffiti; Valens, the flan a little wavy. Lot of 2 coins. Julian, Nice Fine; Valens, about Very Fine.

Valentinian I, 364-375 AD. Gold Solidus (4.5 g), Constaninople mint. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Valentinian standing facing, head right, holding Victory and labarum. S.4088 var.; C. 28. Small knock in right reverse field. With large, bold portrait. Very Fine.

Valens, 364-378 AD. Gold Solidus (4.2 g), Antioch mint, struck 364-367 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Emperor standing facing holding Victory on globe, and labarum; RIC 2e. Also, two Byzantine Solidi: Phocas, 602-610 AD.; Frontal crowned bust / Angel frontal, holding Chi-Rho staff and globus cruciger; SBC 618. And, Heraclius, 610-641 AD.; Facing crowned busts of Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine / Cross potent on three steps; SBC 738. Phocas a better strike, with only minor edge weakness; lustrous. Heraclius also decently struck and lustrous. Valens ex jewely, and the Byzantines each with slight areas of edge smoothing. Lot of 3 coins. Valens Fine plus; Heraclius Choice Very Fine, the Phocas better.

Theodosius I, 379-395 AD. Gold Solidus (4.4 g), Constantinople mint, struck 378-383 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Helmeted Constantinopolis enthroned front, head right, holding globe and scepter. RIC 44c; C. 8. Well centered, sharp strike, with pleasing portrait. Choice Very Fine.

Eugenius, 392-394 AD. AR Siliqua, Lugdunum mint. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of the elderly Eugenius right. Reverse: Helmeted Roma sitting on cuirass left, holding Victory on globe and scepter. RIC 46; C. 72. Toned, in bold, expansive style. Flan a trifle wavy. Very Fine. Rare.

Arcadius, 383-408 AD. Gold Solidus (4.2 g), Milan mint, struck c. 397-402 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Arcadius in military attire right, holding labarum and Victory on globe, foot on captive below. RIC 1205; Depeyrot 16/1. Well centered, sharp strike, but with faint scratches in left reverse field. Some edge scrapes, perhaps ex jewelry? Extremely Fine.
