1874-S. NGC graded MS-63. Fresh white luster throughout and completely without toning. Minor hairlines and scattered marks account for the grade.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,200.

1875-CC. MS-65. Full blazing luster in the fields and well struck, we note a few wispy hairlines and precious few ticks from handling, keeping this one at the high end of all mint state coins. Hints of golden toning are starting to form. Boldly struck for the date, and probably one of the best around from the important Carson City Mint.
Estimated Value $15,000-20,000.

Lot 1815 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1875-CC. NGC graded MS-62. Bright and untoned, this one has a good strike despite a few minor ticks, expected for the grade. A scarce date that is always in demand for the popular Carson City Mintmark.
Estimated Value $900-1,100.

Lot 1816
1875-S. AU-58. Frosty luster in the fields, but we also note minor hairlines and a scratch below the eagle's beak. Minor rim ticks too.
Estimated Value $150-200.

Lot 1817 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1876-CC. NGC graded MS-61. A touch dull from past cleanings, but this state of affairs is expected for a coin of this grade. We do find a sharp strike throughout, and most of the luster still present.
Estimated Value $1,700-2,000.

1877. PCGS graded MS-64. Frosty luster and lightly toned. Nearly a gem, with clean surfaces and delicate gold toning starting to form.
Estimated Value $1,500-2,000.

Lot 1819
1877-S. MS-62 Includes an NGC cert tag. Frosty and without marks worthy of note.
Estimated Value $350-450.

Lot 1820
1877-S. AU-53. This one has the usual hairlines from a past cleaning, and is still untoned.
Estimated Value $150-200.

Lot 1821
1877-S. AU-50. This one is unusual, the fields are prooflike, but it might be from a light polishing, after which the coin was cleaned with resulting hairlines in the fields. Still bright and well struck, and a good representative for the date collector.
Estimated Value $150-200.

1878. Proof 63. Toned with cloudy gray hues on both sides, with evidence of sunset gold too. Well frosted on the devices, but with the usual hairlines in the fields slightly disturbing the delicate mirrors. Always popular with collectors, and an important type issue.
Estimated Value $1,500-2,000.

Mint State 1878-CC Trade Dollar

Lot 1823 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1878-CC. MS-60. This is a rare date, only 97,000 were coined and few were saved from this important Western Mint. Not quite fully struck on the high points, and most of the luster in intact. Light gold has started to form on the lower right reverse. If you have an album set of these, this would be a major addition and would knock out the key date.
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.
