1878. 8 tail feathers. Proof 62. Excellent contrast and eye appeal for the grade, we note strong frost on the devices and well preserved mirror fields. One small planchet flaw below the eagle's tail. First year of issue, and rare.

Lot 1829
1878. 7 tail feathers, third reverse. ICG graded MS-64. Deeply toned with familiar Kraft envelope (or similar) shades, and we can easily see the original folds in the toning from the envelope! Deep russet on the obverse, with lines where the folds resided for many years. The reverse lighter, and the lines quite obvious. Clean surfaces and quite interesting for the toned specialist.
Estimated Value $350-450.

1878-CC. NGC graded MS-66. An early strike here, which boasts frosty devices and slightly prooflike fields. No toning at all, and a beauty in every way. Liberty's cheek is especially clean, and the luster glowing throughout. Only 35 graded this high by NGC, with a single coin graded higher by that service, making this one of the finest to survive. An outstanding coin.
Estimated Value $2,000-2,500.

1878-CC. PCGS graded MS-65. Deep dark gold to satiny silver in color on the obverse, the reverse with hazy toning and a vibrant arc of blue on the right side. 1879. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. With above average contrast between the mirror fields and the devices, and hence the Cameo designation. Well struck and preserved, with light gold toning on both sides. A few trivial slide marks on Liberty's cheek, as usual.
Estimated Value $2,000-2,500.
