Lot 54

1856 Snow-2. Proof
64+. This is the Snow-2 variety with the projection down from the center of
U in UNITED and high leaves around CENT, and a center dot on the left top serif
of the N of that same word. Boldly struck, with sharp details on all the
devices, including the feathertips and wings of the eagle, and the wreath
details on the reverse. No trace is seen of the recut 5, and we note a short
lint mark above the eagle's eye and the wing above in the field. We note light
golden toning on the reverse, the obverse brighter. A rare coin that has gotten
a lot more expensive over the years now that the Beck hoard has been
distributed. An important offering for the specialist.
Estimated Value
$12,500-15,000.
Lot 55

1857. PCGS graded
MS-64. Well struck with all of the eagle's feathers fully defined. Lightly
toned with a faint tone spot on the 8 of the date.
Estimated Value
$700-800.
Lot 56

1857. MS-64.
Strong luster and nice color throughout, with mellow gold hues mixed with
coppery mint glow. Better than average strike, with most of the tail feathers
present on the eagle.
Estimated Value $500-750.
Lot 57
1857. NGC graded
MS-63. Colorful toning noted in the obverse fields, and well struck and
preserved throughout. Good for the type or date collector who wants a decent
example in the choice category.
Estimated Value $300-350.
Lot 58
1858. Small Letters.
MS-60+. A few field marks and ticks from handling, but still a nice
coin for the grade. Sharply struck by the dies. We note a small die crack from
the rim to the eagle's beak and near his eye. One old spot in the wreath, below
the C of CENT.
Estimated Value $250-350.
