paste toning on both sides.
Estimated Value $200-230.
Lot 1719
1936-D Rhode Island Half
Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. Blue and gold at the rims, and obviously
held in an album or the original cardboard mailer either of which contained a
small amount of sulphur that causes a coin to tone at the rims. Great eye
appeal.
Estimated Value $150-200.
Lot 1720
1936-D Rhode Island Half
Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. Rich and deep gold in color, with strong
luster beneath. Sharp and desirable, as all gems are in demand, especially ones
with toning and eye appeal as offered here.
Estimated Value $125-150.
Lot 1721

1937 Roanoke Half Dollar.
NGC graded MS-65. Lovely gold and russet toning around the edges,
probably from a tab holder. Great luster and excellent surfaces.
Estimated
Value $200-300.
Lot 1722

Estimated
Value $160-175.
Lot 1723
1937 Roanoke Half Dollar.
PCGS graded MS-64. Pretty toning on the obverse and reverse, with
satiny luster beneath. This one has the appearance of a higher grade, and we
didn't find any distracting marks with out glass.
Estimated Value $130-150.
From the Benson collection and purchased as part of a type set of
Commemorative half dollars from Ira S. Reed on February 15, 1944 for $135.00.
Lot 1724

1937 Roanoke Half Dollar
(4 pieces). Each of these grades MS-66 or better. These all have the
familiar "tab" toning seen from long storage in the original cardboard holders,
which are included with this lot as well as the original mailing envelop.
Needless to say, these coins came to us in these envelopes from an old time
collector who carefully saved the original mailing envelope, kept the coins
safe in their original holders, and allowed them to develop these spectacular
colors. One glance will convince even the most jaded numismatist that these are
totally original coins that have never been mishandled in any way.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Lot 1725

1937 Roanoke Half Dollar
(3 pieces). Each grades MS-66 or better. This lot includes the
original cardboard holder that contained these coins as they were shipped in
1937. Note the magnificent golden toning that is a result of decades long
storage in these cardboard holders. This is known as "tab" toning for the
cardboard tab that held the coins in place. Few are offered with these original
cards, and most were discarded soon after they were issued. Lot of 3 coins.
Estimated Value $700-UP.
Lot 1726

1936 Robinson-Arkansas
Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. A stunning coin with deep sunset
toning, particularly so on the obverse. Worthy of a premium bid due to the
unusual array of colors.
Estimated Value $600-800.
Lot 1727

1936 Robinson-Arkansas
Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Deep gold at the base of the obverse,

found this nice.
Estimated Value $400-500.
Lot 1728

struck. Nice cheek on Robinson.
Estimated Value $400-500.

natural golden toning at the outer borders.

Lot 1730
1936 Robinson-Arkansas
Half Dollar. MS-64. Bright and lustrous, with just a splash of
toning on the upper reverse.
Estimated Value $70-80.
From the Benson
collection and purchased as part of a type set of Commemorative half dollars
from Ira S. Reed on February 15, 1944 for $135.00.
Lot 1731

1936 Robinson-Arkansas
Half Dollar (5 pieces). These all grade MS-65 and better. Also
included with these coins is the original cardboard mailing holder, which,
incidentally, is from our friends Stack's in New York. Like the Goldberg's,
Stack's was founded in the 1930's and both the Goldberg family and the Stack's
family have been in the rare coin auction business for three generations so
far. Stack's was involved with the distribution of these Robinson-Arkansas
commemorative half dollars in 1936, and rarely do we encounter the original
cardboard holders anymore, most having been discarded over the years. The
holder itself is in fine condition, with bright ink and nice corners. The coins
though, are truly spectacular, with tab toning from long storage in the
holders, and superb surfaces throughout. If you have ever wondered what a truly
"original" coin looks like, then stop for a minute and study these. Note
specifically the blazing luster, "tab" outline toning and general eye appeal.
Lot of 5 coins.
Estimated Value $750-UP.
Lot 1732

1935-S San Diego Half
Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Stunning toning on the reverse, with dark

From the Benson collection and purchased as part of a type
set of Commemorative half dollars from Ira S. Reed on February 15, 1944 for
$135.00.
Lot 1733

speak of. A well struck beauty.
Estimated Value $400-500.
Lot 1734

1935-S San Diego Half
Dollar (2 pieces) and 1936-D San Diego Half Dollar (2 pieces). Each coin
grades MS-65 or better. Further, the original cardboard holder of issue
grades Fine and is included with these, and a glance will demonstrate that
these magnificent coins were toned by decades long storage in these holders.
Gorgeous shades of gold in tawny flecks can be seen over the vibrant luster.
Lot of 4 coins.
Estimated Value $500-600.
Lot 1737

1936-D San Diego Half

Estimated Value $750-1,000.
Lot 1738

1936-D San Diego Half
Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Frosty luster with an overlay of light
gold toning. A scattering of ticks, but you need a strong glass to see them,
and obviously a high end gem at a glance. Rare thus.
Estimated Value
$250-UP.
Lot 1739

1936-D San Diego Half
Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Dusky gold toning at the centers, vibrant
red and gold at the edges. Nicely struck by the dies and well preserved, with
just a couple of faint ticks on the devices.
Estimated Value $250-UP.
Lot 1740

Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Attractive russet iridescent toning graces
