1874. NGC graded MS-62. A few tiny scuffs, but pretty coppery tones and well struck. Scarce as a type coin.

1878. PCGS graded AU-58. This one circulated for a brief time, minor handling marks but most of the luster remains.

1879. NGC graded MS-63. Well struck with slightly reflective mint surfaces. Popular low mintage date and probably from the Beck holdings disbursed in the mid 1970s.

Rare 1885 In Proof

1885. Proof 63. Boldly struck and downright rare in any grade. As a date, only 910 were struck, of those 109 were proofs. This one has a few minor hairlines in the fields, and scattered ticks from handling, but the orange-peel fields are present and generally undisturbed. Identifiable by a small "S" shaped lint mark in the field before the eye. A rare opportunity.

1889. PCGS graded MS-65 Premium Quality. A satiny mint gem exhibiting gorgeous golden-orange and light olive overtones. Destined to be resubmitted for a higher grade. Popular last year of the three-dollar gold coin. Color photo.
