A wonderful high grade example of this sought-after date. A lustrous

present from moderate cleaning at one time. This was the last year double

Lot 2174
1889-CC. AU-55.
Cracked out of an NGC holder where this coin was graded AU 55 so Dr.
Kardatzke could place it in his large Capital Plastics holder. We note however,
that the rim has been lightly filed on the obverse behind Liberty's hair bun,
in order to hide a rim bump (very successfully too). Only 30,945 struck.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,250.
Ex Dr. Jon Kardatzke Sale, June 4-6,
2000, Lot 1817.
