Lot 2598 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1896-O. ANACS graded MS-62 Deep Mirror Prooflike. An extremely rare coin in either Deep Mirror Prooflike or even Prooflike! This particular one shows the expected handling marks, which are magnified by the delicate mirror fields, but the coin remains attractive. A trace of gold toning around the obverse rim, but otherwise this one is untoned. Well frosted on the devices and obviously a very early strike just after the dies were polished up. Check out the PCGS Population Report on these (although this coin is graded by ANACS), and you will note only 5 graded as DMPL (best MS-62) and 7 graded as Prooflike (best MS-62 again). Hence, this coin may be tied with the finest of the date for the DMPL or PL category, and hence quite important for the specialist.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,500.

1896-S. VAM-5, R-4. MS-63. A lovely mint fresh example for the date collector. This one boasts the doubled S Mintmark, which is slightly scarcer than one without this feature. Creamy white luster and totally problem free for the grade.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,200.
