Phoenicia. Tyre, after 126 BC. AR Shekel-Tetradrachm (14.1 g), struck 45/46 AD. Laureate, skin-clad bust of Melkaart right. Reverse: Eagle standing left on prow, palm branch at shoulder, club and date in fields (year 171). BMC --; RPC 4671. Good centering, struck on usual undersize flan. Lightly toned and attractive for the late series. Issued in Jerusalem? Very Fine.

Judea, Seleucid Ascalon. Antiochus VIII, 121-96 BC. AR Tetradrachm (13.5 g), struck 119/118 BC. Diademed head of Antiochus VIII right. Reverse: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, palm at shoulder, Seleucid date at right (year 194); monogram and dove in left field. Hendin 417; ACNAC 4: Houghton 822 var. On tight flan with usual metal porosity. Well struck up and quite handsome for this series. Nearly Extremely Fine. Rare.

Judea. Under Persian Rule, before 333 BC. AR Yehud Hemiobol (.04 g). Profile view of lily. Reverse: Eagle frontally displayed, head to the right; to right, Hebrew inscription ("YHD"). Hendin 427; AJC I, p. 116, 8. Sharply struck on choice metal. Reverse nicely centered, with virtually complete inscription. Extremely Fine. Rare, and a really choice example.

Judea. Hellenistic Period, after c. 305 BC. Yehud AR Quarter Obol (0.18 g). Diademed head of Ptolemy I right. Reverse: Eagle left, standing with wings spread; Yehu[dah] in Hebrew at left. Hendinn 438; AJC I, 117, 16. Sharp strike on very good metal. Portait choice, well centered and from a fairly fresh die, thus with fine detail. Choice Extremely Fine. Excellent and recommended.

Judea. Hasmonean Period. John Hyrcanus I, 134-104 BC. AE Lepton. Upright palm branch, flanked by Hebrew inscription in four lines on either side. Reverse: Lily, within beaded circular border, "A" monogram at left. Hendin 458; AJC I, Group O. Sharply struck and nicely centered. With black-green patina, and tan earthen highlights. Extremely Fine. Choice and rare, especially this nice. A very comparable example appeared in a recent NY retail list at $550!

Hasmonean Period. Mattathias Antigonus, 40-37 BC. Lot of Thee AE's. Two AE 24 mm.'s: Double cornucopiae / Greek inscription around ivy wreath; Hendin 481. Also Hendin 482: AE 19 mm., Filleted cornucopia / Greek inscription within laurel wreath. With varied patinas. One side usually off center to some degree. Lot of 3 coins. Coins average Fine.

Hendin 643; AJC II, Supp. V, 16. Obverse off center, but amphora perfectly framed, with lovely deep blue azurite patina. Very Fine / Extremely Fine. Less common.

Lastly, Porcius Festus, 59-62 AD., struck 58/59 AD.: Wreath with inscription within / Palm branch, Hendin 653a. All are cleanly and boldly struck, on choice metal, with pleasing patinas. Lot of 3 coins. Coins average about Extremely Fine. An exemplary group.
