Lot 356

1806. Pointed 6, stem
through claw, O-114a, R-4. The Robinson S. Brown specimen. NGC graded
EF-45. A later die state with the heavy horizontal die break spanning the
reverse. Gorgeous dark gray toning with multicolored highlights, and reasonably
well struck considering the late die state. The devices are lighter in color
than the fields. A rare and sought-after variety and this ranks as one of the
top four known. Not only is this a scarce die variety, but it is a fairly
late die state as well, with the large horizontal reverse die crack. The colors
are truly a delight here, and worth a premium if you love gorgeously toned
coins. Estimated Value $1,000-1,400. Ex: Robinson S. Brown
collection, Jerry Schertz collection via Sheridan Downey, Portland, Oregon ANA,
August 6, 1998 and from the San Marino Collection.
