Lot 542

1836. Designer's name on
base. Circulation issue. PCGS graded Proof Good-6. A very nice coin
for the moderate grade, perhaps this was a pocket piece or something similar as
the surfaces show straightforward wear and aren't banged up as much as one
would expect on a coin of this moderate grade. No rim bumps or other
detractions can be seen in the PCGS holder. Breen notes that 600 of these
were released into circulation by the Bank of the United States at the time of
issue, and some, like this coin, obviously circulated for many years. Only
1,000 were coined of this die alignment. Estimated Value $3,000-3,500.
