One of the Finest NGC graded 1889-CC Morgan Dollars

Lot 666 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-CC. NGC graded MS-64 Premium Quality. A satiny, white example of this extremely difficult date. Liberty's cheek is very clean, and we note a trace of haze on the reverse which can be seen under a strong light. As with most other rarities, we know a whole lot more about whats out there today than a couple of decades ago because of the relentless Population Reports of the two major grading services. These tell no lies, and no amount of hype, dancing up and down or pleading can alter the cold hard facts. This one has been graded MS-64 by NGC, along with a total of 23 in this grade category. Above that we note 3 specimens graded higher, all MS-65 for the non prooflike category. In the Prooflike and Deep Mirror Prooflike category NGC has graded 16 as MS-64 combined, and just a single coin above as MS-65 prooflike. That's it. No more. Finis. If you want one of the finest 1889-CC Morgans, then we strongly suggest you purchase this coin. There simply aren't many this nice, and finding a better one is nearly impossible.
Estimated Value $35,000-UP.

Magnificent Toned Near Gem 1889-CC Morgan Dollar

Lot 667 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-CC. PCGS graded MS-64. An outstanding toned example of this extremely rare date. The coin is toned a delightful golden gray color, with bright blue at the rims on both sides. It is well struck too, with no signs of weakness on the upper devices. As to rarity, this one can hardly be topped, PCGS has graded 18 this high, and just 3 higher! In addition, there are 21 more graded as MS-64 in the Prooflike and Deep Mirror Prooflike categories, but none grade higher in either of these two slots. Certainly in the top 100 known of this date, and probably in the top couple of dozen! Any way you view this coin, it is a stunning example of this important rarity. In PCGS holder #10005036.
Estimated Value $20,000-UP.

Lot 668 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-CC. ACG graded AU-50 our grade EF-45, lightly cleaned. One of the key dates to the Morgan dollar series, this one has been lightly cleaned with minor hairlines noted, but the surfaces are generally pleasing for the grade. We note a small series of tiny ticks on the eagle's breast. Well struck and one that would suit most collectors just fine.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,200.

Lot 669 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-O. MS-64 or better. A bright and flashy coin that boasts ample luster in the fields. Liberty's cheek is clean as well. Rare this nice, and curiously raw.
Estimated Value $750-UP.

Lot 670 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-O. PCGS graded MS-63 Prooflike. Here is a very rare date to find in any Prooflike or DMPL grades, given the PCGS Population Report figures it appears that somewhere between 4 and 5 percent of the known mint state coins show the mirror fields. This particular one looks very close to a DMPL to us, and the surfaces remain choice as well. Totally bright and untoned, and worth a strong bid.
Estimated Value $400-500.

Lot 671 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-O. MS-64. Blazing luster and super clean surfaces on this scarce date. From an old collection, and the coin remains untoned and the only complaint are some very faint hairlines on Liberty's cheek. A well struck coin for the grade.
Estimated Value $200-250.

Lot 672
1889-O. MS-63. A very nice example from this old time collection, the surfaces retain full mint freshness, and show minimal contact marks. Totally white and lustrous.

1891-CC. PCGS graded MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflike. A rare coin in high grades with the deep mirror prooflike fields. The surfaces are quite clean, and minimal signs of handling can be found with a glass. The mirror fields are well preserved. PCGS has graded only 36 this high, with a single coin graded higher in the DMPL category.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

Lot 679
1891-CC VAM-3. R-4. MS-63. Hazy white in color, with sharply struck devices and excellent fields and surfaces for the grade.

Lot 680 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1891-CC. PCGS graded MS-63. Scarce this nice, and if anything we feel this one is very high in quality for the grade assigned. Note particularly the fields surrounding Liberty, they show virtually no significant contact marks, and her broad cheek shows only minor ticks from bag handling. This is the "spitting eagle" as are most, of this date.
Estimated Value $275-325.

Lot 681
1891-CC. MS-63. Pleasing color and surfaces, mostly white and ringed in gold.

1892. PCGS graded Proof 65. Deep gray and blue toning on this scarce date. The surfaces show no signs of handling aside from the expected light hairlines. Watery mirror fields, and appealing as are all these early proof issues.
Estimated Value $3,000-3,300.

Lot 684 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1892-CC. PCGS graded MS-63. Totally white and untoned. The strike is sharp right up to the curls on Liberty's ear. A rare date that always is expensive in any mint state grade, and if you want a frosty, lustrous example then we recommend this one highly.
Estimated Value $550-600.

Lot 685
1892-O. MS-60. Typical strike but a scarce date.
Estimated Value $80-90.

Lot 686 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1892-S. ANACS graded Unc. details Net AU 55, cleaned-retoned. This one has been cleaned, with resulting hairlines on the surfaces, and retoned to a deep gray color on both sides. Apparently mint state, and well struck too. One of the key dates to the series, and this one would fit well into a toned collection despite its problems.
Estimated Value $1,200-1,500.

Lot 687
1892-S. PCGS graded EF-45 Premium Quality. One of the rarest dates in the whole Morgan silver dollar series, the 1892-S is eagerly sought-after in all grades, and is represented by a total of 55 PCGS graded coins in mint state! Hence, most collectors locate as high a grade example as they can reasonably afford, and this lovely XF-45 should suit a great many. Golden luster and well struck by the dies, with minimal handling marks from circulation.
Estimated Value $225-UP.

Lot 688 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
