1859 Pattern Quarter Dollar. Silver, reeded edge. Judd-234. Pollock-281, Rarity-7. PCGS graded Proof 61. The obverse design is the regular die for the seated quarter, but the reverse is really special, as it boasts a large complex eagle with wings spread, a shield over its breast, and the olive branch of peace in the dexter claw while the arrows of war remain in the sinister left claw. The arrows are very long and thin. Around the eagle is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR below. No real handling marks, just moderate hairlines which don't distract as much as the grade implies. A coin so rare that the grade actually doesn't matter all that much, as PCGS has graded only 5 coins of this pattern issue in various proof grades! A rare opportunity for the pattern specialist to buy one of the more beautiful and truly rare pattern issues.
Estimated Value $2,800-3,000.

1865 Pattern Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-435. Pollock-508, R-6. NGC graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. This one may actually be an R-7 as only 7 pieces have been graded between NGC and PCGS combined! The obverse depicts the familiar Seated Liberty design, with stars around and date below, while the reverse is the soon to be adapted With Motto over the eagle design. This trial coin made the rounds with a few others, and it was decided to change the master hubs to include the motto IN GOD WE TRUST in a long banner flying over the eagle on the reverse. No doubt the horrors of the soon to be completed Civil War had a lot to do with this addition, and the motto continues today on both our coinage and paper money issues. NGC has graded 1 this high in Brown, this specimen as PF-64 Red and Brown, and one coin higher as PF-65 Red and Brown. PCGS has graded four in all, one as PR-63 Brown, one as PR-63 Red and Brown, one as PR-64 Brown, and one better than all as PR-66 Red and Brown. An important pattern issue for the specialist or Seated dollar collector.
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.

1868 Pattern Three Cents. Nickel, plain edge. Judd-618. Pollock-687, Rarity-5. Judd 618. Pollock 687. NGC graded Proof 64. A rare pattern issue, NGC has graded 23 in various grades, and this one in a group that skirts the gem grade. Frosty devices and boldly struck by the dies, with the typical proof haze associated with these nickel issues of the period, and a few tiny flyspecks on Liberty.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

1879 Pattern Goloid Metric Dollar. J-1626, P-1822, R-3. Silver, reeded edge. Judd 1626. Pollock 1822. NGC graded Proof 62. This could be one of the Goloid alloy pieces, but elemental analysis would have to be performed to determine this, so we'll assume it is the more common silver (90%) and copper (10%) alloy. Toned a deep silver gray color, with some hairlines in the fields which account for the grade. Boldly struck and pleasing for the moderate grade assigned.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,200.
