An 1862 Cameo Proof Set Offered Singly

1862 Indian cent. PCGS graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo. One of the finest graded of this date, and one of just 2 deep cameos certified by PCGS of this date. The obverse is toned with hazy white surrounding Liberty. Deeply cameoed devices and lettering, with a single planchet flake between NI of UNITED which will serve to identify this one. Only 2 coins graded technically higher, with this particular coin at the top of the Deep Cameos seen.

1862. Three cent silver. PCGS graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo. This is the only "Deep Cameo" graded by PCGS, and naturally the finest graded as well! Further, only 9 have been graded this high in Cameo 1 coin, and 7 in regular proof, and at the very top, a single PR-67 regular coin. One tiny flake in the left obverse field will serve to identify this beauty. Superb snowy white surfaces with abundant frost on the devices. As perfect a coin as one could hope to find, one that is virtually the same as the day it was struck in the early days of the Civil War.

1862 Half dime. PCGS graded Proof 67 Cameo. Tied for the finest graded of this date in proof, only 3 cameos have been graded this high of a total of just 4 cameo examples certified. In addition, only a single regular proof has been graded this high, and there are none graded higher by PCGS! Stark white in color, with well mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices. As nice as the day it was coined, and certain to please the discriminating numismatist.

1862 Seated dime. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo. A very difficult date to locate in "cameo" grades, with just two seen as such, this one and another a grade notch higher. Only 1 Deep Cameo has been graded to date as well. Further, just 4 have been graded this high for the regular proof issue. Excellent fields and surfaces, and totally white in color. Great contrast, as expected. Identifiable by a dog leg planchet flake above and right of the ribbon on the reverse.

1862 Seated quarter. Perhaps the Finest Known. PCGS graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo. This is the only Deep Cameo graded by PCGS, and it is also tied for the finest graded of the Cameo (2 others) or regular proof issues (6 as such). As the deep cameo frost is the heaviest, and most desirable, it is safe to say this coin is the finest graded by PCGS, and likely the very finest out there. A trace of haze in the fields, but totally white in color, and ankle deep frost is noted on the devices. Perhaps the very first proof quarter struck during 1862, as the proof frost the creates these cameo coins quickly is reduced after a few were struck. A great condition rarity, and worthy of the finest set in the land.

1862, Seated half dollar. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo. This is the finest Cameo proof graded by PCGS of this year, of only 4 seen that qualify as "cameo". The surfaces are superb, bathed in white frost on the devices, and surrounded by well mirrored and pristine fields. We note a minor lint mark in the right obverse field. A trace of haze, otherwise stark white in color. Part of a superb 1862 proof set offered singly in this sale.

1937. Five coin proof set. A nice brilliant set with a bit of toning on the dime, and a few hairlines on the cent, which is also starting to tone. The half dollar, quarter and nickel are all nice. Lot of 5 coins.

1939. Proof Set. The coins in this set grade Gem Proof. All three of silver issues show some golden toning around the edge from the old cardboard holder which likely housed these coins for many years. The Quarter has a minor obverse toning spot. Satin smooth devices and well mirrored fields adds to the allure. A premium set.

1951. A lovely toned proof set, the cent has a dollup of greenish gold at the center and is PCGS graded PR-66 Red, the nickel is PCGS PR-66 and bright and untoned, the Roosevelt dime is PCGS PR-66 and toned with deep blue and burgundy on the obverse, the reverse dark blue and burgundy, the Washington quarter is PCGS graded PR-66 and gold and deep blue around the rims and the Franklin half is PCGS PR-65 and toned with deep blue and russet around the rims. A lovely toned set for the collector.
