Lot 1325

Mexico - San Luis Potosi.
8 Reales, 1870-Pi-PS. Die Style of 1867-1870. Normal Date. DP-Pi58; KM
377.12. Cap and Rays. Very Rare. For Mexican coins, a marvelously sharp strike,
with only trifling weakness o the eagle. Once cleaned, but not egregiously.
White, with faint retoning. Choice Almost Uncirculated. Estimated
Value $6,000-7,500. The 1870 Potosi 8 Reales were manufactured for a
very short time before beginning production on the One Pesos. Therefore they
are all very rare. Dunigan & Parker alluded to three uncirculated specimens
known to them, one of them being this coin, which was pictured in the variety
plate. It remains as one of the finest known.
