Shield Nickels

Lot 220      1866. NGC graded MS-64. This is the first year of issue, and the "with rays" examples only lasted for part of two years. Good luster and an average strike.
Estimated Value $450-500.

Lot 221      1867. Rays. NGC graded MS-65. Totally white in color and without the usual specks or similar problems. Struck from slightly worn dies, but with fewer die cracks than usually seen. In demand as a type coin for the rays on the reverse.
Estimated Value $2,700-2,900.

Lot 222      1867. Rays. NGC graded MS-65. Great color and surfaces with plenty of luster too. An important type coin for the collector.
Estimated Value $2,250-2,750.

Lot 223      1872. NGC graded Proof 65. A nice proof which is enhanced by delicate pink toning on the obverse, the reverse similar but also includes green iridescence and brilliant rose gold too.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 224      1877. NGC graded Proof 65 Cameo. A brilliant example with a touch of light nickel shading. A popular proof-only date with a mintage of 510 or so as the Mint records may not be perfect.
Estimated Value $2,200-2,500.

Lot 225      1879. NGC graded Proof 66. Blazing white in color and sharp throughout, with no problems or flyspecks anywhere to be found. A real jewel for the date or type collector.

Estimated Value $70-80.

Lot 227      1879, 9 over 8. NGC graded Proof 67. An amazing spotless gem specimen with attractive light violet overtones. Few could be better than this one.
Estimated Value $1,400-1,600.

Lot 228      1879, 9 over 8. NGC graded Proof 66. Bright white in color and sharp. No problems or contacts marks worthy of note, and a radiant example of this rare overdate.
Estimated Value $900-1,000.

Lot 229      1880. PCGS graded Proof 64. Pleasing color and surfaces for the grade.
Estimated Value $250-300.

Lot 230      1883. NGC graded Proof 67. Bright and flashy and this one is enhanced by fiery sunset gold on the left obverse and around portions of the reverse rim. A few minor streaks, but highly appealing.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

Lot 231      1883. NGC graded Proof 66. Light gold toning over the usual reflective nickel sheen. Well struck and free of fly specks or other problems.
Estimated Value $500-550.

Lot 232      1883. PCGS graded Proof 65. Fairly bright and fresh, with a bit of haze on the lower reverse.

Liberty Nickels

Estimated Value $850-900.

Lot 234      1883. With "CENTS". NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. Excellent contrast between the fields and devices and totally free of annoying spots or significant contact marks.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 235      1884. PCGS graded Proof 66. This one has nice fresh color and surfaces, and shows the curious repunched 1 in the date.
Estimated Value $600-700.

Lot 236      1884. NGC graded Proof 66. A superb gem specimen with a hint of delicate gold and light violet toning on both sides.
Estimated Value $600-700.

Lot 237      1885. MS-60+. Reflective fields and well struck, but we note some unfortunate hairlines on both sides. Still the key date of the series, with a mintage of 1,476,490 and most are found in much lower circulated grades. A coin that would fit nicely in an album of uncirculated dates.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 238      1889. PCGS graded MS-63. Not quite half the stars are struck up, but lustrous and with minimal flyspecks.
Estimated Value $100-115.

Lot 239      1892. NGC graded MS-65. Blazing white luster and well struck, although we note a minor planchet defect to the right of the date.
Estimated Value $950-1,050.

Lot 240      A large lot of Liberty nickels. Lot of 473 coins. This lot contains 473 Liberty nickels with dates from 1883 to 1912, with grades from About Good to Fine. A nice selection for the dealer. Lot of 473 coins.
