Morgan Dollars (1884)


Lot 850      1884. PCGS graded Proof 64. This coin has very deep blue toning at the rims and lighter lilac to lavender gold at the centers on both sides. One would have to assume that this one was toned for decades in a Wayte Raymond holder, as such glorious colors normally take a long time to form. Clean surfaces and very beautiful.

Lot 851      1884. NGC graded Proof 63 Cameo. Bright white and with excellent contrast on both sides. A few handling marks, including a minor scrape in the right obverse field, but Liberty's face is quite clean. While not the most technically perfect coin, this one has a lot of flash and appeal for the grade.

Lot 852      1884. PCGS graded MS-66. Stunning steel blue, green and gold toning on the obverse, with the reverse white. Outstanding surfaces as well and exceptionally appealing.

Lot 853      1884. PCGS graded MS-64. Boldly toned with light gold on the upper left of the obverse, darkening to magenta through Liberty's face and curls, then intense greens near the lower right rim. Well organized colors and appealing, the reverse is white, as usual.

Lot 854      1884. NGC graded MS-63. Dark blue green and gold on the obverse, with the center more rosey gold. A ring of gold on the reverse rim.

Lot 855      1884 (5 pieces). All NGC graded as follows: MS-64, MS-63 (3 pieces) and MS-62. Lot of 5 coins. The MS-64 and one of the MS-63 pieces are toned on the obverse with blue and gold, while the other three coins are toned with similar colors on the reverse. A nice selection. Lot of 5 coins.

Lot 856      1884-CC. PCGS graded MS-65 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Highly reflective fields and deeply frosted on the devices. In an older green insert PCGS holder.

Lot 858      1884-CC. PCGS graded MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Totally white in color, with excellent contrast throughout. A few nicks from gem.

Lot 859      1884-CC. ICG graded MS-64. Toned with rich golden sunset hues on the reverse, with brilliant reddish gold on the left side fading to intense greenish blue near the rim. Highly appealing, and a moderate grade. A few breaks in the toning on the left side. The obverse is white with a hint of gold.

Lot 860      1884-CC. PCGS graded MS-63. Dusky gold toning starting to form over dancing luster. Highly appealing for the grade.

Lot 861      1884-O. ICG graded MS-66. Intense yellow-gold-red-green iridescence on the reverse, and very choice color on the reverse, while the obverse is mostly white save for a touch of toning on the lower left rim.

Lot 862      1884-O. PCGS graded MS-65. Fuchsia and chartreuse on the lower obverse, with deeper blue green at the date and fading to sky blue with arcs of gold above. Another spectacular toned Morgan, white on the reverse.

Lot 863      1884-O. NGC graded MS-65. Toned with deep iridescent blue, fuchsia, green and gold on the obverse, the reverse with a touch of gold. Well organized toning, and very bold colors through Liberty's cheek and ear.

Lot 864      1884-O. NGC graded MS-64*. Especially intense aqua blue, magenta and gold on the obverse, plain vanilla on the reverse. Amazing intensity for the color buff.

Lot 865      1884-O. NGC graded MS-64. Bright gold and blue on the obverse, with the gold near the rims, and medium blue over Liberty. The reverse is mostly white with a touch of gold.

Lot 866      1884-O. PCGS graded MS-63. Deeply toned on the upper left half of the obverse, with a transitional line of bright reddish gold fading to light blue for the balance. On the reverse about one half is toned with gray-gold tones, the rest bright white.

Lot 867      1884-O. NGC graded MS-63*. Nothing special on the obverse, but the reverse is awash is especially vibrant gold, magenta and blue green tones on the right half. Further, the surfaces are clean on the reverse as well. Eye candy for the advanced color addict. Color photo on plate 0.

Lot 868      1884-O. NGC graded MS-63. The reverse is toned with vivid deep green and gold over luster while the obverse is untoned. Especially bold colors on this one, and worth a strong premium as such.

Lot 869      1884-O. NGC graded MS-63. Irregular but patterned blue and gold geometric toning on the obverse, white on the reverse. This one looks a bit like a maze. Unusual, and certainly desirable. Likely caused by storage in a paper envelope or similar environment which produced the curious colorful arrangement.

Lot 870      1884-S. NGC graded AU-58. Close to new, which are as nice as this date is usually found. Satiny luster and just a trace of wear.
