A beautiful, lustrous coin with a crisp strike, satiny surfaces, and an especially clear portrait. Few pieces can equal the present specimen for its exceptional qualities. PCGS graded MS-63.

Fantastic 1726 2 Guineas

Lot 163 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
Great Britain. 2 Guineas, 1726. George I. Young laureate Head. S-3627; Fr-326; KM-554. The last of just 3 years of coinage of the first Hanoverian king's hefty "double guinea," this is a most impressive specimen, as even a quick glance will confirm. Further study reveals its extremely deep strike, its glowing luster combined with prooflike fields, and its relative lack of abuse; in fact, only tiny abrasions prevent us from calling it splendid, an incredible situation for a large gold coin of this age. A few of these evidently were saved as mementos, probably at Court, for Mint State pieces are not unknown; however, few pieces possess the highly reflective, glassy surfaces that enhance this wonderful specimen. One of a kind! PCGS graded MS-63. Color photo.
Estimated Value $7,500-10,000.

Lot 164 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
Great Britain. Guinea, 1726. George I, 5th Bust. S-3633; Fr-327; KM-559.1. Another choice example, not as elusive as the early dates of this reign, but quite rare nonetheless. PCGS graded MS-61.
Estimated Value $2,000-2,500.
Ex Sharps-Pixley Collection.

Lot 165 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
Great Britain. Half Guinea, 1726. George I, 2nd Bust. S-3637; Fr-329; KM-560. Rarer than the 1725, and Mint State pieces are truly elusive. PCGS graded MS-63. Color photo.
Estimated Value $1,500-2,000.
Ex Norweb Collection.
