Half Dollars (Barber)

Lot 434        1892 Barber Half Dollar. ICG graded MS-62. A nicely struck, frosty example of the first year of the Barber Half Dollar series. Bright and semi-reflective (Photo).
Estimate $300-400.

Lot 435        1897 Barber Half Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 68 Deep Cameo. Show-stopping, blast white surfaces with heavy cameo devices. In an old, green-label holder, meaning that the grading is strict and that no credit was given (as it would be, if graded today) for the strong cameos. We suspect (but do not guarantee, of course) that this coin will come back as a PR-68 DCAM if resubmitted. PCGS has graded only 7 examples at this level, with none higher. A remarkable coin that should see fierce bidding (Photo).
Estimate $15,000-18,000.

Lot 436        1899 Barber Half Dollar. NGC graded Proof 64. PQ. Double-sided, rose-gold peripheral toning. Housed in an older NGC holder -- identifiable by some of the holder characteristics but also because there is absolutely no mention of the cameo contrast on this piece! One of only 846 Proofs struck (Photo).
Estimate $1,500-1,800.

Lot 437        1905 Barber Half Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. The obverse is a uniform greyish-blue while the reverse exhibits hues of gold, blue and green. One of only 727 proofs struck (Photo).
Estimate $750-850.

Lot 438        1905-S Barber Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Heavily frosted surfaces display a bright white brilliance, changing to champagne iridescence at the rims. Superb quality and strike, clean on the cheek and well-detailed on the eagle's feathers and talons. Easily one of the finest examples known of the date. PCGS reports only one coin in MS-66, with only 2 finer (both in MS-67) (Photo).
Estimate $9,000-10,000.

Lot 439        1905-S Barber Half Dollar. ICG graded AU-55. Attractively toned on both sides (Photo).
Estimate $150-200.

Lot 440        1907-D Barber Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-68. Rings of bright blue iridescence surround champagne toned centers. Extremely well struck and almost perfectly preserved. A remarkable coin for the collector who wants only the finest quality. Pedigreed to the John Jay Pittman collection, one of the most celebrated and valuable collections of coins ever assembled. This is the finest example graded by NGC (interestingly enough, the NGC Census reports two coins at this level, both from the Eliasberg collection)! Accompanied by a PCGS tag indicating the Pittman provenance and a grade of MS-68 (it seems that at least one owner of this coin was seeking an MS-69 grade) (Photo)

Ex: Pittman Sale.
Estimate $10,000-15,000.

Lot 441        A Lot of 3 Barber Halves. Consists: 1892; 1899; 1902. All are sharpness of Almost Uncirculated however all have been cleaned.
Estimate $300-400.
