A needle sharp strike exhibiting wide edges, a full head on Liberty, sharply separated fingers on her outstretched hand and a defined branch hand. All the criteria (and more) that is described by Walter Breen in his Encyclopedia of United States and Colonial Proof Coins. The matte proof surfaces are platinum-grey in color. Breen notes only two, and possibly a third specimen to exist (Photo). Estimate $6,000-8,000. |

The real attraction of this piece is its strike, which is decidedly above-average for the issue. The detail on Liberty's cap is excellent, her blouse is fully defined, and one can even see the clear separation of the hand and thumb.
