Lot 1230        1850 $20 Liberty. AU-58. Good luster and lightly toned. A pleasing example of our first regular Liberty Double Eagle (Photo).
Estimate $2,500-3,500.
 
Lot 1231        1851-O $20 Liberty. Sharpness of MS-60. Cleaned years ago and possibly repaired on the edge. Deep yellow gold with darker areas around the borders. An attractive example despite the mentioned problems (Photo).

Lot 1232        1851-O $20 Liberty. EF-45. An excellent example of this popular New Orleans mint issue with traces of mint luster still adhering about the protected areas of the devices. Free from serious rim bumps or noticeable scratches, just the normal allotment of marks from circulation (Photo).

Lot 1233        1855-S $20 Liberty. Sharpness of AU-50. Plenty of detail and mint luster remains to justify the grade, however, we note some moderate marks about the rims and surfaces (Photo).

Lot 1234        1857-O $20 Liberty. EF-45. Some light marks and hairlines appear due to an old cleaning (Photo).

Lot 1235        1857-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. With the gold foil tag from the S.S. Central America treasure. 20C Narrow Serif. SSCA 1403. A stunning, well struck example with beautiful light golden mint luster and a hint of golden-orange about the extreme borders. A wonderful example of the type 1 gold Double Eagle design (Photo).

Lot 1236        1864-S $20 Liberty. SEGS graded MS-61. A well struck example with light contact marks scattered about on both sides, none of which are too serious. Plenty of mint luster remains and a very scarce date in uncirculated condition (Photo).

Lot 1237        1865-S $20 Liberty. ICG graded EF-45. We note a small obverse rim nick at 7 o'clock (Photo).

Lot 1238        1870-S $20 Liberty. NGC graded AU-50. Scarce date in grades above EF (Photo).

Lot 1239        1871-CC $20 Liberty. SEGS graded MS-60. Well struck with some mint luster still visible. Some light to moderate handling marks are noted on both sides. A very rare date in this lofty grade as NGC has graded 2 Mint State examples, none by PCGS. An important coin for the Carson City specialist (Photo).

Lot 1240        1871-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58 PQ. A considerable amount of original mint luster still remains on this well struck example. Bright, sunny-yellow color, with a patch of orange color in the upper left obverse field where some alloy imperfections (as made) exist. Very choice and attractive for the grade. This date has a high mintage and can be found rather readily in circulated condition, but high-end AU's and Mint State pieces are quite rare (Photo).

Lot 1241        1872-CC $20 Liberty. SEGS graded AU-58. Well struck and choice. Although probably cleaned years ago, this lovely Carson City double eagle has an excellent look and is easily worth our estimated price (Photo).

Despite this negative description, this Carson City double eagle has an excellent overall look (Photo).
