1042 New York, Albany, 1902 RS, $5, First N.B. Red Seals have seen much demand over the recent years. This pleasing example comes from the capitol city of the State of New York. No pinholes or tears. Fine to Very Fine. Estimated Value $300-500.

1043 New Jersey, Atlantic City, 1902 PB, $20, Boardwalk N.B. A great name from Atlantic City. Chartered in 1907 and continued past the note-issuing period. Although the signatures have faded, the note is still very presentable (no pun intended.), boardwalk margins. About Fine. Estimated Value $300-400.

1044 California, San Francisco, 1882 BB, $10, Wells Fargo Nevada N.B. Well centered, deep colors, and the paper is 100% original. The only fault we could find is a small paper error near the eagle's neck on the face. When turned over, you can tell a large piece of something was embedded into the paper and now is starting to discolor the paper. An outstanding example of what an original note should look and feel like. Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $600-700.

What is interesting in California notes is that two banks are known for their Brown Back hoards and they are exactly 1,000 charter numbers apart. About Uncirculated. Estimated Value $600-700.

Most collectors and dealers do not realize that all notes from the 1882 series Wells Fargo Nevada National Bank notes are error notes. Yes, every one of them. Why? The would "The" was never part of their corporate title and it was not removed until the 1902 series. Very Fine. Estimated Value $400-500.

John Sherman was Secretary of the Treasury and a Senator from Ohio. He was famous for the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, which breaks up monopolies. Very Good. Estimated Value $600-700.

1085 California, Sanger, 1902 DB, $100, First N.B. Great California note with only seven examples reported in Jacob's California Census, A Population Report of National Bank Notes. Of the seven reported one is locked away forever in a museum leaving only six notes from this Fresno County location. The bank only issued high denominations and the bank liquidated in 1923. Tied for finest of the notes reported. Fine. Estimated Value $7,000-9,000.

1086 California, Willits, 1902 PB, $10, First N.B. An outstanding location in Glenn County, this bank only have four notes reported, this being tied for second finest reported. Two small-size notes are also reported. Chartered in December of 1919, the Great Depression closed the bank forever in June of 1931. During that time period it issued a total of just $201,850 worth of large-size notes, which only $4,480 was outstanding in 1931. That works out to 2.2% of the total notes issued where outstanding in 1931 of which .0089% is reported today! It is doubtful that another note will show, but who knows when and where. If you ever wanted a note from this town, here is your chance to buy it. Very Good. Estimated Value $6,000-8,000.

1087 Minnesota, Starbuck, 1902 DB, $5, First N.B. Some hoards have great stories that should be told. In the mid 1970's a cash hoard was located in the former front yard of the late Mrs. Ella Overby. For about sixty years, Mrs. Overby cashed her widow's benefit checks and buried most of the cash in jars. The hoard consisted of thousands of dollars in face value in Nationals, most of which where from Starbuck; which is near where she lived. Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $250-350.
