3303    1799. Tarazka 5-D (Rarity 5). Irregular date. MS-63 plus. Here is a magnificent example, boldly struck with all the center points of the stars intact. The surfaces are simply outstanding and shimmer with semi prooflike mint luster. The rims and surfaces are remarkably clean and fresh and only the faintest of adjustment marks are noted on the reverse in the center of the shield (these can only be seen under strong magnification). Taken out of an NGC MS-63 holder (tag included) as the consignor did not agree with the grade. Regardless, if you have been searching for a choice early Capped Bust eagle in choice Brilliant Uncirculated condition with great eye appeal, wait no longer for here is your coin! Color photo.

3304    1799. Small obverse stars. Sharpness of EF-40. Rim repaired.

3305    1803. Large reverse stars. Taraska 1-E (Rarity 4). EF-40. Obverse with the large pointed stars. Well struck with no serious rim or edge bruises. We note some fine adjustment marks on the reverse as made. Signs of old cleaning , now nicely toned and quite nice.

3306    1845-O. NGC graded AU-55. Lustrous, yellow-gold, with coppery toning in the protected areas. Small spot on the rim by the third star. Well-struck for a New Orleans Mint product. Trends in AU for $7,500. Mint State examples are extremely rare and even AU's are tough. NGC reports 14 in this grade, 9 in AU-58 and only four in Mint State (the finest of which is a single MS-64).

3307    1854 "Blundered Date." Breen 6911. NGC graded AU-53. Called "very rare" by Breen. This neat variety shows portions of a mis-placed 1 in the denticles below the 8 of the date.

3308    1854-O. NGC graded EF-45.

3309    1856-O. NGC graded AU-55. A bright, yellow-gold, fully lustrous example. A lovely, high-end example of this date, kept from the Mint State level by some minor surface abrasions. The only noticeable flaw is a short, shallow scratch in the right obverse field which we mention only for pedigree purposes. One of the best known examples: NGC reports 10 at this level, 12 in AU-58, and only 2 in MS-60, with none finer.

3310    1859. NGC graded MS-60. Choice, orange-gold surfaces, with only two marks worthy of note: one by Liberty's mouth and another just to the right of the second star on the left. Even at the MS-60 level, this is one of the finest examples known of this date. PCGS reports only 1 Mint State example (an MS-62). NGC has been a little more generous, grading 2 in MS-60, 2 in MS-61, 3 in MS-62, and 1 in MS-63.

3311    1878-CC. NGC graded AU-50. A delightful example of this rare, low mintage issue, with coppery-orange toning on both sides. With a mintage of only 1,762 coins, this date is expected to be rare and it certainly is that. Most survivors are worn and heavily circulated, thus AU examples are very rare. Mint State examples are almost impossible to find; in fact, the only Mint State example of which we are aware is the MS-63 listed in NGC's Census Report. NGC has graded only this AU-50, 2 in AU-53, 4 in AU-55, 3 in AU-58 and the above-mentioned MS-63. They don't get any tougher than this!

3315    1885-S. NGC graded MS-62. A pleasing, wholly acceptable example that has some delicate green toning on the reverse peripheries. Scarce in this grade, but an excellent value due to the extreme rarity of anything better. NGC reports 6 in MS-63, only 1 in MS-64, and none finer!
