135   Gish, Lillian. (1893-1993) Legendary silent film actress and star of all of D.W. Griffith's classics, such as Birth of a Nation (1915), Intolerance (1916), and Broken Blossoms (1919). After the advent of "talkies", she lost interest in the cinema, but continued on the stage, only occasionally returning to film and, later, television.
