233 Prokofiev, Sergey. 1891-1953. Important
Russian composer whose works demonstrate a great range, most popularly known for Peter and the
Wolf (1936).
Typed Letter Signed. One page, Quarto, in Russian, Paris, France,
1932. To A.W. Greiner of Steinway & Sons. Genteel letter to a fellow countryman employed at Steinway
& Sons who is taking pains to aid Prokofiev's career by drawing him publicity. Prokofiev writes in
full:
"Dear Aleksandr Vasilyevich, Thank you for your February 15 letter with the Times
page enclosure. I was pleased to learn that, in spite of hard times, you had gone to great lengths
to have my portrait inserted. Using this opportunity, I would like to inform you that the other day
I performed with the Berlin philharmonic and that the Steinway sounded superbly. My new concerto is
coming along just fine, and I hope that next winter you will hear me perform it. Best regards to you
and your wife from both of us. Yours truly, Prokofiev."
Expertly repaired, with faint
tape marks visible at top. Mounted to a slightly larger sheet of heavy white bond.
