241   Teller, Edward & Glenn Seaborg. Edward Teller (1908- ) Physicist. He contributed profoundly to the modern explanation of solar energy, anticipating the theory behind thermonuclear explosions. He was a member of the team that produced the first nuclear chain reaction and worked on the atomic bomb project at Los Alamos (1943-5). He supported the use of nuclear power for peaceful means, including the use of nuclear devices to excavate large areas for harbors. Glenn Seaborg (1912- ). Nuclear chemist. Professor of chemistry at University of California at Berkeley who was part of the team which discovered the transuranic elements plutonium, americium, and curium. By bombarding the last two with alpha rays he produced the elements berkelium and californium in 1950. In 1951 he shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry with Edwin McMillan.

Commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences and features a small depiction of Lincoln at the signing of the Academy Charter in 1863. Signed by Nobel Prize-winning chemist Glenn Seaborg.

B. "Canadian Contributions to Science and Technology." Approximately 7.5 x 4.5", Postmarked -- June 27, 1986. Ottawa, Canada. Card commemorates Canadian contributions to science and is signed in blue ink by Edward Teller, father of the Atomic Bomb. Very Good.
