1816. Newcomb-2, Rarity-1.
PCGS graded MS-63 Brown and Del Bland graded AU-55. A nice example
of this hoard variety, free from carbon and with only a few microscopic
handling marks. Lovely, lustrous medium steel brown with a generous amount of
faded mint red, the reverse with slightly iridescent steel blue
overtones.
The die engraving on this variety resembles an "office boy"
style, the date shows recutting and the reverse lettering is poorly placed with
varying spaces between most of the letters in the legend. Impressive and well
struck, this one should find a new home without any trouble.

near the end of WWII.

PCGS graded MS-62 Red and Brown and Del Bland graded MS-63. One of
the nicer examples of the Randall hoard variety despite a couple of very small
nicks on the lower face and two more on a leaf above O in ONE. A trifle better
struck on the forelock than usually seen and lacking the carbon spots. Mint red
and brown, the reverse rotated 45 degrees to the right.
We note some very
faint scratches around Liberty's eye and in the field before her face. Lovely
color and appeal for this popular Randall Hoard cent. Rim crumbling over stars
eight to ten, as usual.

but cleaned, now a light reddish color streaked with medium steel overtones.

Rarity-1. PCGS graded MS-63 Red and Brown and Del Bland graded MS-62.
Blunt striking as almost always seen on this variety, another from the
Randall Hoard. Nearly full mint red just beginning to tone to brown but on the
obverse are a few nicks and light carbon is prominent on both sides.
The
carbon spots are present on both sides, but they are not too distracting. What
is remarkable, is the amount of original mint red present. This coin literally
glows with fiery red, and is very attractive as such.

High Rarity-1. PCGS graded AU-55 and Del Bland graded VF-30. Light
chocolate brown, darker on most of the obverse, with a small dent on the face,
two tiny nicks also on the face, and one other very small nick elsewhere on
each side. A highly popular variety.
The small die break is very clear below
Liberty's ear, but the advanced rim crumbling is not yet present. In feverish
demand for the 15 star obverse die, with a significant premium paid for coins
approaching mint state on this variety. Here is one that has been off the
market for a very long time.

Rarity-3. Del Bland graded VF-25. Sharpness of Very Fine-35 but near
star eleven is a nick, opposite the neck is a smaller one and through ES, MERIC
and the wreath below is some fine porosity. Medium dark chocolate brown with a
reddish orange color where the porosity was worked on. Early die state, no die
crack through the first S in STATES to wreath and only a faint crack through
the tops of ST slightly over half way to D.
This early die state is
extremely rare, the only other known example was sold in the Jack Robinson sale
by Superior Stamp and Coin in 1989, lot 669 grading net VG-10 for $577.50 over
a decade ago! Don't let this opportunity pass you by.

Del Bland graded EF-40. Five points sharper but near star one is a
small nick and over T in UNITED is an edge dent. Medium chocolate brown with
golden brown faded from mint red around the devices.

traces of faded min red around the devices. On the neck is an almost invisible
scratch and on the cheek is a microscopic nick.

obverse. Newcomb-10. PCGS graded AU-55 and Del Bland graded VF-35.
Sharpness of at least EF-45 but cleaned and retoned to a mahogany brown
color with dark olive areas through the leaves below OF and through and below
the ribbon. The incuse side is lightly rough but this example is well struck
and highly desirable.

Del Bland graded EF-45. Lustrous medium dark chocolate brown with
light brown mottlings on the obverse and faint evidence of faded mint red on

obverse has been lightly polished and there are a few signs of handling,

variety from the Randall hoard with light carbon on both sides as well as a few
small dark carbon spots. Mint red toning to brown.
The carbon spots are
hidden for the most part, some by the letters LIBERTY, others by the
surrounding devices, with just a few in the fields. Seldom found unmolested,
and with so much original Mint color.

important overdate issue.

Mint State sharpness but in the field before the face and on the face are
many microscopic nicks. Also on the face is another small nick, a tiny one is
on the lower bust line, a hairline scratch crosses the lower neck and around
ONE CENT are other nicks and hairline scratches. Well struck and centered with
the overdate feature sharp and clear. Medium and light chocolate brown with
considerable faded mint red on the reverse.
There is a lighter arc of brown
at the top of the obverse, and the hairline scratches and nicks are to be
expected for the grade assigned. Excellent color and scarce in this grade.

Del Bland graded VF-30. A nice medium dark chocolate brown obverse
with a lighter brown reverse showing a few small olive toning spots. Around ONE
CENT are some minor abrasions, otherwise choice.

cent with a tiny nick on the neck and one on the edge right of star ten.

Newcomb-8, Rarity-1. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown and Del Bland graded MS-60.
Quality of Mint State-62 but with a few abrasions visible only under a
glass. A small nick on the neck and raised corrosion within E in CENT. Mint red
and brown. Probably from the Randall hoard.
We also note a minor spot on
Liberty's nose, and a cluster of tiny tick marks at the central reverse, and
another small group below the ribbon on the reverse. Lovely color and
apparently original.

Del Bland graded MS-61. Light brown and mint red, the colors
beautifully blended, with two vertical darkish streaks through Liberty. There
are a couple microscopic keg marks on each side not distracting much from the
beauty of this cent. A sharply struck early die state.
Don't miss out on
this lovely coin which will always be desirable for its surfaces, color and eye
appeal.

Newcomb-1, Rarity-1. Del Bland graded EF-40. Dark chocolate brown
with pleasing surfaces and nearly perfectly clean. Opposite the mouth and on
the chin are three tiny unimportant nicks, over the eye is a hairline scratch
and on two denticles midway between the date and star 13 is evidence of a small
carbon spot.
Actually, the overdate shows a 1 under the 2, with no evidence
of the 9 under 0, but the 18 are also recut.
