Brown. A nice choice coin that has ample mint color.
Estimated Value
$40-50.
Lot 1303

of the upper devices. A better date in high grade.
Estimated Value

From the Howard R. Newcomb collection of Indian Cents,
purchased June 30, 1944 from J.G. Macallister.
Lot 1304

1894. Doubled date.
Snow-1, FS1-011, Rarity-5. PCGS graded MS-64 Red and Brown. The date
is boldly double cut in the die, listed in the Guide Book as a separate
variety and extremely popular with collectors. Rare in mint state grades, this
near gem should excite the advanced numismatist who has been searching for a
really lovely example. In color, the mint red is fading to brown, and the
surfaces are pristine, showing few signs of handling and no spots on either
side. Research shows that only 15 of this date have been graded Mint State 64
or higher, and this important die blunder is rarely offered for sale,
especially so nice.
Estimated Value $1,200-UP.
Lot 1305
1894. Doubled date.
MS-63 Red and Brown. An excellent picture of this variety appears in
Breen's Encyclopedia, #2024, and this variety is listed in the Guide
Book. Mostly red with a few areas of toning and minor handling marks are
noted. Very scarce and always in demand by specialists and collectors. A later
die state with a reverse crack at the upper end of the left branch, and rim
crumbling on the obverse.
Estimated Value $350-UP.
Lot 1306

Lot 1312

1900. PCGS graded
MS-66 Red. One of just 34 graded this high, with 3 graded higher by PCGS.
The surfaces are resoundingly bright, blazing red in color and free of handling
marks. None of the usual problems are present, such as fingerprints or cleaning
lines. An exceptional Indian Cent worthy of the finest collection.
Estimated Value $550-700.
Lot 1313
1900. PCGS graded
MS-65 Red. Blazing red color with a hint of rose shades too. Sharply
impressed and certain to please.

Lot 1314

(No date), Indian cent,
struck off-center about 15%. PCGS graded Fine-15. Fragments of the
date show, and it appears that 190 is visible in part, but the final digit is
missing. Well struck with some of LIBERTY still visible. Indian cent errors are
far more difficult to obtain than Lincoln cent errors. There are some minor
marks around the date, and we note heavier than usual dirt around the devices.
Estimated Value $250-300.
Lot 1315
1901. PCGS graded
MS-65 Red. One of the best of the date set, with excellent surfaces and
color. Well struck and unimprovable quality here.

30, 1944 from J.G. Macallister.
Lot 1316

MS-65 Red. It is apparent that this set was put together from the same
source, all the coins have the same appearance, and all are very high end for
the grades assigned. Blazing red color here, with hints of yellow luster and a
hint of rose on the reverse.
Estimated Value $225-275.
From the
Howard R. Newcomb collection of Indian Cents, purchased June 30, 1944 from J.G.
Macallister.
Lot 1317

1902. The first cent
coined in 1902 at the new U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. A most interesting
item that is mounted in a custom frame with a photograph of a native American
chief. Below is a small card which states "First cent coined/in 1902/at the new
U.S. Mint/Phila." and signed John Landis/Coiner. The cent is proudly mounted at
the center of the card, and appears to be mint state, with brown toning and
slightly wood grain in appearance. The reverse is not visible in the frame. A
fascinating item which no doubt has quite a provenance, originally in the
collection of Wayte Raymond, the famous American dealer.
Estimated Value
$2,500-UP.
Lot 1318
1903. PCGS graded
MS-65 Red. Another exceptional coin for the grade, even red color
throughout, and well struck. A glass will note a tiny tick on the lower jaw
line, and a few others on the reverse. Could easily be a grade better.
Estimated Value $225-275.
From the Howard R. Newcomb collection of
Indian Cents, purchased June 30, 1944 from J.G. Macallister.
Lot 1319

1903. Double struck with 2
dates! PCGS graded Fine-15. One of the most amazing errors in this
collection, the first strike was perfectly centered, before the coin was fully
ejected, the dies struck it again, this time 85% off-center, but most curiously
all four digits plainly show at the top right of the obverse! On the reverse,
the top of the shield also shows on the lower right from the off-center
strike.
As to the condition, the coin retains fragments of most of the
letters of LIBERTY, and there are a couple of small surface marks to note, one
deep dig near the U of UNITED, and there is a short scratch above ER of
AMERICA, both of these surface problems are minor when one considers how
spectacular the error is. Evenly toned a medium brown throughout.
Estimated
Value $1,000-1,500.
Lot 1320

1903. The first cent
coined in U.S. Mint Philadelphia, PA, January 2, 1903. A most interesting
item that is mounted in a custom frame with a photograph of a native American
chief. Below is a small card which states "First cent coined/in U.S.
Mint/Phila, Pa./Jan 2, 1903." and signed Rhine R. Freed/Coiner. The cent is
proudly mounted at the center of the card, and appears to be mint state, with
brown toning and lovely iridescence. The reverse is not visible in the frame. A
fascinating item which no doubt has quite a provenance, originally in the
collection of Wayte Raymond, the famous American dealer.
Estimated Value
$2,500-UP.
Lot 1321
1904. NGC graded
Proof 64 Red. Bright red, with some light hairlines and faint spots, mostly
on the reverse.
Estimated Value $160-180.

Macallister.
Lot 1323
1905. PCGS graded
MS-65 Red. A spot-free gem that is especially bright and fresh. Examination
with a 10X loupe fails to locate more than the most trivial signs of handling,
and this coin is virtually perfect. See what you think.
Estimated Value
$200-225.
From the Howard R. Newcomb collection of Indian Cents,
purchased June 30, 1944 from J.G. Macallister.
