1886-O. PCGS graded MS-64. One of the very finest known of this key date, only 104 have been graded as such by PCGS, with 3 more as 64 DMPL, but what is important is that only 3 coins have been graded higher, in any category! Don't expect to locate, much less afford a higher grade example, assuming one is ever offered. This one is bright and flashy, with no toning on either side. While sliders are plentiful, true uncirculated pieces are not, and to find a near gem is an ordeal, so bid accordingly.
Estimated Value $4,500-5,500.

Lot 2086
1886-O. AU-58. A few too many marks to qualify for Mint State.
Estimated Value $70-90.

Lot 2087
1886-O. AU-58. Light wear.
Estimated Value $70-90.

Lot 2088
1886-O. AU-58. Nearly new, and flashy.
Estimated Value $70-90.

Lot 2089
1886-S. MS-64. A toned example of this scarce date, the colors range through blue and red with bits of gold added in. Luster beneath the rainbow hues, and sharply struck.
Estimated Value $350-450.

Lot 2090
1886-S. MS-60. Scuffy on the obverse from bag handling. With a recut "S" Mintmark.
Estimated Value $100-125.

Estimated Value $50-75.

Lot 2094
1887-O VAM-2, double date. MS-60. The date shows repunching on the 1 and the 7, both to the left. Flashy luster and untoned, with moderate handling marks.
Estimated Value $100-125.

1887-S. PCGS graded MS-65. One may think this is a common date because of the thousands found in the Redfield hoard, but when it comes to gem pieces, its another story altogether. Only 141 have been graded this high by PCGS, and digest this, only a dozen have been graded higher. This one boasts blazing white frost with appealing cartwheel luster in the fields. Nearly impossible to find better, and downright tough this nice.
Estimated Value $2,200-2,500.

Lot 2096
1887-S. MS-60 Plus. White and fresh, with sharp luster and gleaming surfaces.
Estimated Value $60-70.

Lot 2097
1888 (2 pieces). Both are flashy and white and both are NGC graded MS-66. Lot of 2 coins.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 2098
1888 (Roll of 20). These grade MS-63. Most are well struck up for this date, which is scarce. Lot of 20 coins.
Estimated Value $350-400.

Lot 2099
1888 (4 pieces). These each are NGC graded MS-65. An impressive group of this scarce date. Lot of 4 coins.
Estimated Value $350-400.

Lot 2100
1888 (8 pieces). These each are NGC graded MS-64. Lot of 8 coins.
Estimated Value $225-275.

1888-O. PCGS graded MS-66. One of the finest graded by PCGS for this scarce date, in fact only 41 have been graded as such with 5 graded with prooflike surfaces as MS-66. None have been graded higher, and that's important, because this coin is thus one of the finest graded and known of the date. Super clean cheek on Liberty and boldly struck throughout. Blazing white frost and luster, and boldly struck by the dies.
Estimated Value $2,000-2,300.

Lot 2102
1888-O. Doubled die obverse, VAM-4. ANACS graded EF-40. This is the "hot lips" variety where Liberty's chin, lips and nose are all doubled. Nice surfaces, typical of a circulated Morgan dollar.
Estimated Value $100-125.

1888-S. MS-65. Flashy and untoned, this one is a scarce date in high grade. There is a mark above the last two digits of the date and some light hairlines surrounding Liberty in the fields.
Estimated Value $1,500-2,000.

Lot 2104
1888-S. MS-63. White and lustrous, without a bit of toning.
Estimated Value $150-175.

Lot 2105
1888-S. MS-60. Well struck.
Estimated Value $100-115.

Lot 2106
1888-S (5 pieces). These grade from Extremely Fine to About Uncirculated. One is toned, the others bright. Lot of 5 coins.
Estimated Value $200-225.

One of the Finest Known 1889-CC Dollars

Lot 2107 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1889-CC. PCGS graded MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflike. One of the rarest dates of the entire Morgan Dollar series, all serious collectors have trouble locating a strong example for their date sets. This one is a magnificent example of this date. Only 350,000 were struck, and precious few were saved in mint state. It is unknown how many were found in Treasury bags, perhaps not even a full bag as less than 400 have been graded in Mint State by PCGS. Of those graded, this is one of the best, only 13 have been graded this high with deep mirror prooflike surfaces, another 13 have been graded either prooflike or regular uncirculated as MS-64. Now, here's the important part, only 2 coins have been graded higher! One in MS-65, the other MS-68.
This particular coin has snow deep frost on the devices and deep reflective fields. The rims are enhanced by light gold toning on both sides. A glass will note the usual scattering of tick marks from bag handling, nothing deep or annoying. If you need a really special coin for your date set, then look no further than this lot and give it the strong bid it deserves.
Estimated Value $35,000-45,000.

1889-CC. MS-63. One of the key dates to the Morgan dollar series, this one is bright and untoned. Upon examination the cheek of Liberty has a pebbly appearance and this coin may have been worked on at some point. Inspection is necessary, see what you think. An important coin like this is always subject to improvement, of one sort or another. Still an important coin, and would fit nicely in a mint state collection.
Estimated Value $10,000-12,000.

Lot 2109
1889-CC. VG-8. One of the rare dates in the Morgan dollar series. This one has a long, dull scrape on the face and field, and a few other marks. Nice toning on both sides.
Estimated Value $125-175.

Lot 2110
1889-CC. VG-8. This coin has been cleaned and retoned with dull gray shades in the fields and lighter on the upper devices. There are several rim knocks, some are heavy, but with the wear don't show all that much. Once in an album, this coin would fit nicely in a circulated date set.
Estimated Value $125-175.
