Lot 1448
Ancient Coin Lot. Greek, Mostly AR Minors, c. 500 BC. - 225 AD. Included are: Miletos, c. 500 BC., 2 AR 1/12 Staters: Forepart of lion left and right, head reverted / Starburst-floral rosette; SNG Cop. 944ff., & cf. 952, 953. Also, Apollonia Pontica, 4th century B.C., AR Diobol: Facing Apollo head / Anchor and crayfish; SGC 1657. Also, Euboia, Histiaia, 3rd century BC., 4 AR Tetrobols: Head of nymph right / Nymph seated right on galley; SBC 2496 var. Also, Phoenicia, Sidon, c. 380-350 BC., AR Obol: Galley left / Persian king fighting lion, two letters in field; cf. SGC 5948. Also, an AE 40 of Ptolemy III, 246-221 BC.: Head of Zeus-Ammon right / Eagle with cornucopia; SGC 7815. Also, Parthia, Vologases VI, 208-228 AD., Billon Tetradrachm: Bust left, wearing tiara / Tyche r., before enthroned king l.; Sell. 88.6. Last, an Indian AE of Sikander Shah II, 1488-1517: Inscription both sides. Histiaia, two with off center obverses; one overcleaned. One of Miletos off center. Parthia, surfaces a bit rough. Ptolemy with nice red and brown patina. Rest of coins with varied toning. Lot of 11 coins. Coins average Very Fine, a few somewhat less.

Ancient Coin Lot. Greek AR Minors & Roman AE's. Ancient Greece. 2 AR Drachms of Parium, Mysia, early 5th century BC.: Gorgoneion facing / Cruciform-patterned incuse square; cf. SGC 3917. Also, Mesembria, c. 4th century BC., AR Diobol: Facing crested helmet / Wheel, ethnic within; SNG BMC Black Sea, 268. Thracian Cherronesos, c. 400-350 BC., 2 AR Hemidrachms: Forepart of lion / Two incuse squares, one having barley ear within, other coin with ram's head; SGC 1605 var. Also, an AE 22 of Sicily, Hieron, 275-215 BC.: Head of Poseidon left / Head of trident; SGC 1223. An AE 15 of Thrace, Maroneia, c. 400-350 BC.: Galloping horse right / Vine within linear square; SGC 1636. Frome Rome, AE Antoininianus, Probus, 276-282 AD.; Radiate bust in consular robes / Temple; RIC 745. An AE Follis of Maxentius, c. 309-312 AD.: Laureate head right / Victory crowning Roma within temple; RIC 108. Lastly, an AE 3/4 of Constantine II, 337-340 AD.: Military bust right / Two soldiers standing, two standards between; Sear 3951 var. Coins with various patinas, with mostly decent to good surfaces. Lot of 10 coins. Coins average Very Fine, some better, some less.

Ancient Greece. Lot of Mostly Silver Minors, c. 400-200 BC. Included are: Calabria, Tarentum, c. 272-235 B.C., AR Nomos: Armed rider on horse right / Taras on dolphin left, thymiaterion to right; Vlasto 891-2. Also, Istrus, 4th century B.C., AR Drachm: Facing youthful male heads / Sea eagle left, dolphin in talons, B in field; SNG Cop. --; BMC --. Thracian Cherronesos, c. 400-350 BC., AR Hemidrachm: Forepart of lion / Incuse square, E and barley ear within; SGC 1605 var. Also, Euboia, Histiaia, 3rd century BC., AR Tetrobol: Head of nymph right / Nymph seated right on galley; SBC 2496 var. Lastly, an Antoninianus of Gordion III, 238-244 AD: Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Liberalitas standing left; RIC 36. Some light porosity on the Tarentum, more so on Histiaia, with minor edge chipping. Gordion sharp and lustrous. Lot of 5 coins. Greeks average Very Fine, or better; Gordion, Choice Extremely Fine. Pleasant dealer material. The Istrus a scarcer variety.

Ancient Greece. Three Small Denomination Silver Coins. Cnidos, c. 390-330 BC., AR Diobol: Head of Aphrodite right / Head of bull facing (SNG Cop. 302). Along with, Corcyra, c. 450-350 BC., AR Triobol: Vase / Star of eight rays (Cf. SNG Cop. 152). And last, Lycian League, Kragos, AR Drachm: Laureate head of Apollo right / Lyre (SGC 5267). Lot of 3 coins. All with nice old collection toning. Very Fine. A good little group.

Ancient Greece. Lot of Small Bronzes, c. 400-200 BC. Included are: Odessos, AE 14, c. 200 BC.; Apollo head right / Great God reclining; SGC 1680 var. Also, Maroneia, AE 15, c. 400-350 BC.; Horse right / Grape vine in square; SNG Cop. 632. And, Macedon, Philip II, 359-336 BC., AE 16; Apollo head right / Youth on horse right. Also two Roman Antoniniani: Valerian, 253-260 AD, Antioch and Emperor reverse (RIC 287); Claudius II, 268-270 AD., Fortuna reverse (RIC 40). Last, Constantine I, 307-337 AD., AE-3, Siscia mint, with VOT X X in wreath reverse (Sear 3785 var). Lot of 6 coins. Greeks average Very Fine, or better; Romans, Extremely Fine to Choice. Good dealer lot.

Ancient Greece. Lot of Greek Small Silvers, c. 400-200 BC. Included are: Moesia, Istrus, c. 4th century BC., AR Drachm; Facing male heads, the left inverted / Sea eagle left, dolphin in talons; SNG BMC, Black Sea, no. 247. Also, Mesembria, c. 4th century BC., AR Diobol: Facing crested helmet / Wheel, ethnic within; SNG BMC Black Sea, 268. Along with a Drachm of Alexander the Great, 3336-323 BC., Lampsascus mint; Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin / Zeus enthroned left, KI at left field; Price 1406e. And lastly, Caracalla, 198-217 AD., AR Denarius, struck 204 AD.; Youthful laureate head right / Dea Caelestis riding lion right, in exergue: IN CARTH; RIC 130a. The Greek coins well centered and struck up, with different degrees of toning. The denarius faintly toned, with slight residual luster. Lot of 4 coins. Greeks average Very Fine plus; Denarius, ICG graded EF-45. Very fine dealer's lot.
