Imperatorial Rome. Julius Caesar, d. 44 BC. AR Denarius, African mint, 47-46 BC. Diademed head of Venus right. Reverse: Aeneas left, carrying Anchises and Palladium. Craw. 458/1; Syd. 1013. Ancient knock to edge of flan bending it a little; light banker's mark obverse right. Otherwise, sharp strike well centered on spacious flan, in attractive style. Old collection toning. Choice Very Fine.

Reverse: Hispania presenting palm to Pompey Magnus at right, who steps from prow. Craw. 469/1a; BMCRR 72. Metal faintly porous, but extraordinarily sharp strike, especially on reverse. Lightly toned. Attractive and historical. Choice Extremely Fine.

Craw. 544/19; RSC 28. Clean, bold strike on excellent metal. Attractive deep gray to iridescent steel blue and green toning. Extremely Fine. A handsome, high grade example of this coinage.

Reverse: Front view of Altar of Lugdunum, the facing wall with decorated frieze, two flanking columns at sides, atop which two Victories face one other; ROM ET AVG. RIC 231a; C. 236. Some very light smoothing to fields. With variegated brown, green, and red patina, and pleasing portrait for this group. Fine, the portrait better. Rare.

Reverse: Caius and Lucius Caesar, togate, stand facing and hold shields and spears; lituus and simpulum between them. RIC 207; BMCRE 519. Bold, well detailed strike on choice metal; with light iridescent gray and russet toning. Obverse a little off center, on somewhat tight flan. Augustus' portrait very stylish. A nice Extremely Fine. A superior example of this series.

One with original dark hoard patina and light scratches; other nicely centered and toned. Lot of 2 coins. Coins average Very Fine.

RIC 131 (Nerva); C. 568 (Aug.). Well centered but metal somewhat porous, with a few light smoothing marks on reverse. Very Fine / Fine plus. Interesting and scarce.

Augustus & Agrippa. Lot of Two AE Aes, of Nemausus, Gaul, struck after 16 BC. Each: Heads of Agrippa back to back, Agrippa, left, with rostral crown, Agustus bare. Reverse: Crocodile right, before wreathed palm to which it is chained. RPC 523 (lighter weight series). Patinas: one with brown-dark green, other with brown, green and slight red. One Fine, other Near Very fine.
