Bar Kochba Revolt, 132-135 AD. AR Sela (14.6 g), Year 3 (undated), struck 134/135 AD. Facade of Temple, ark within, wavy line above. Reverse: Lulav with etrog to left, Hebrew inscription around ("For the freedom of Jerusalem"). Hendin 713; Mild. 95; AJC II, p. 273, 53c. Overtstruck on Antiocene tetradrachm. Lightly toned, with a few slight, cleanable deposits. Choice Very Fine. Scarcer variety.

Bar Kochba Revolt, 132-135 AD. Year 3 (undated). AR Zuz (3.0 g.), struck 134/135 AD. Wreath, two line Hebrew inscription within (Shim'on). Reverse: Two upright trumpets; Hebrew around. Hendin 716; Mild. 123. Trivial deposits on obverse. Some horn silver on reverse which should be removed to further improve this piece. Lightly toned, with portrait and partial inscription of Vespasian discernible on obverse. A sharp Very Fine. Of more than usual interest for having a portrait of Jerusalem's previous conqueror still visible on the obverse.

Reverse: Fluted jug, handle at left, palm branch to right; Hebrew around. Hendin 717; Mild. 80. Well centered, bold strike with handsome, deep toning on good metal. Choice Very Fine. Nice example.

With medium, pleasing toning. About Extremely Fine. Rare. Mildenberg lists only five examples for this number.

Reverse: Upright palm branch; Hebrew inscription around ("For the freedom of Jerusalem"). Hendin 724; AJC II, 62; Mild. 122 (no. 6 , of 17 examples cited). Beautifully centered, and boldly struck; with light gray and russet toning. Superb Extremely Fine. Scarce.

The undertype a Cappadocian drachm of Trajan, probably Arabia reverse. Slightly toned, and somewhat lustrous. Extremely Fine, as struck.

Among the most stylish of the Bar Kochba bronzes. Extremely Fine.

With pleasing dark green and reddish patina, with earthen highlights. Nearly Extremely Fine. A remarkably choice example.

Bar Kochba Revolt, 132-135 AD. Year 3 (undated). Lot of Two Middle Bronzes. Struck 134/135 AD. Each with: Palm tree of seven branches, with two date clusters below; Hebrew inscription in field ("Shim'on"). Reverse: Large vine leaf with branch; Hebrew around. Hendin 736; Mild. 113. Both with deep green to dark brown patinas, with some orichalcum highlights. One on thin, spread flan; the other compact, but thicker. Both good, clean strikes. Both average Very Fine.

Bar Kochba Revolt, related. AR Tridrachm (10.2 g), of Trajan, 98-117 AD. Issue of Caesarea, Cappodocia. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Trajan right. Reverse: Three legionary standards: aquilia, standard, and vexillum. SNG von Aulock 6999; Syd. 227. Toned, well centered. Choice Very Fine.

Said to have been found with other of the Bar Kochba selae, seen in the preceding lots.

Bar Kochba Revolt, related. Lot of Three Roman AR Tetradrachms, found in association AR Selae. All issues from Antioch, Syria. Nero: Laureate and aegis draped bust right / Eagle on thunderbolt right, palm branch at right (dated 63/64 AD.); RPC 4189. Galba: Laureate head right, star in right field / Eagle on thunderbolt left, palm branch at left (dated 68/69 AD.); RPC 4196. And, Trajan: Laureate head right / Eagle on thunderbolt left, head reverted; BMC Syria, p. 185, 288. Coins with variety of tones. All with good portraits. The Galba scarce. Coins range from Fine plus, to Choice Very Fine.
Estimated Value $400-550.

Meshorer 21; SNG ANS 598. Dark gray-green patina, with flecks of red and brown, and earthen highlights. Quality provincial portraits. Choice Very Fine. Rare and attractive.
